The *haldi* function was going on happily, but Arjun was focusing on his studies. Everything was smooth until, during Athreya’s engagement, Mala’s sister, Riya, said something strange.
Riya remarked, “Didi, tumhein pata hai, jiski engagement iss time pe toot jaati hai, unko kisi aur ki engagement mein bulaya nahi jaata. Ye rivaaz hai.” This was Riya's indirect way of telling Arjun not to attend Athreya's engagement and wedding.
Vikram, who overheard this conversation, frowned. Mala then turned to Arjun and said, “Tumhe Athreya ki engagement aur shaadi mein nahi aana chahiye. Agar tum aaye, toh mere bete ki zindagi barbaad ho jaayegi.”
Arjun calmly replied, “Theek hai,” and left the room.
At that moment, Janaki was looking for Arjun and asked Athreya, “Arjun kahan hai?”
Athreya casually responded, “Woh nahi aayega.”
Surprised, Janaki asked, “Kyun?”
Athreya shrugged, “Uski exam hai.”
Janaki became sad hearing this. Just then, Arjun’s grandmother arrived, bringing Arjun with her. Mala, Athreya, and Riya were shocked, and at the same time, Kalee (played by Vijay Sethupathi) also walked in.
Kalee, with a laugh, said, “Maaf karna, Athreya, main thoda late ho gaya. Tumne apne bhai ko andar nahi bulaya?”
Arjun’s grandmother straightened up and said, “Woh kaise bulata, jab maa-bete dono ne milkar usse yeh keh diya ki woh na aaye?”
Vikram and Chitra immediately went to take blessings from Arjun’s grandmother, and she lovingly said, “Tum dono khush raho. Beta, kaise ho tum?”
Vikram smiled and replied, “Main theek hoon, dadi. Aap kaise ho?”
Grandma smiled gently, “Main theek hoon, beta. Par mujhe tumse aur Chitra se ek zaroori baat karni hai.”
Mala, sensing the tension, quickly said, “Saasu maa, andar aayiye pehle.”
But Grandma, her tone slightly serious, said, “Main andar aungi, lekin pehle panditji ko bulao.”
Mala, confused, asked, “Panditji ko kyun?”
Grandma smiled a little and said, “Bas bula lo.”
The priest was called, and everything seemed fine. Arjun's grandmother sat down and asked, “Waise, engagement kab hai?”
Athreya replied, “Kal hai, dadi.”
Grandma looked directly at Vikram and said, “Vikram beta, main yahan Arjun ke liye tumhari behen Nandini ka haath maangne aayi hoon. Tumhein yeh rishta manzoor hai?”
Everyone was shocked to hear this. Arjun, feeling anxious, said, “Dadi, par...”
Grandma cut him off, “Beta, Nandini tumhari bachpan ki dost hai, aur woh tumse bohot pyaar karti hai. Haan, uska mann kaafi baar thoda alag hota hai, par maine uska tumhare liye pyaar dekha hai. Toh Vikram, tumhein yeh rishta pasand hai?”
Vikram tried to say something, but Grandma continued, “Mujhe pata hai, uski mental condition perfect nahi hai, par maine pehle hi decide kar liya tha ki woh iss ghar ki bahu banegi. Tum kya kehte ho, Arjun?”
After a pause, Arjun quietly said, “Mujhe yeh rishta manzoor hai.”
Hearing this, Vikram and Chitra were overjoyed. Grandma then turned to the chitra and said, “Chitra beti, Nandini ka kundli panditji ko de do.”
Vikram hugged Arjun tightly and said, “Bhai, thank you so much.”
Arjun smiled and replied, “Yeh thank you kyun? Tum mere dost ho, aur main tumhare liye kuch bhi kar sakta hoon.”
Then, Grandma looked at Riya and asked, “Ab, kya woh engagement attend kar sakta hai?”
Arjun, smiling, gave a signal to Vikram and asked, “Vikram, dadi ko kaise pata chala?”
Vikram, trying to hide his laughter, said, “Main ne bataya.”
Arjun, surprised, asked, “Tumne kyun bataya?”
Vikram grinned and said, “Ab unka mazak khatam, ab humari baari hai maza lene ki.”
Both laughed. Kalee, watching the whole scene, said to Athreya, “Main tumhari engagement mein aaya tha, par yahan kuch aur hi chal raha hai.”
Athreya, annoyed, mumbled, “Pata nahi dadi ko kisne invite kiya.”
Kalee laughed and replied, “Koi baat nahi. Tum aur tumhari maa milkar koi nayi planning kar lena.”
