The hum of the safehouse was unmistakable as Gekko and Iso stepped into the common area. Phoenix was sprawled on the couch, casually scrolling through his phone while Jett sat at the table, eating a quick breakfast. Neither of them seemed to notice the subtle shift between Gekko and Iso—at least, not right away.

But Sage did. Her eyes lifted from the tea she was sipping, and she gave them a knowing look, the barest hint of a smile playing on her lips before she glanced back down, giving them space.

Gekko and Iso exchanged a glance, the weight of last night still resting heavily between them, but for once, it didn't feel like a burden. It felt... natural. They'd stepped into something new, but the foundation they'd built over time—through battles, through moments of trust and tension—kept them grounded.

Iso moved toward the table, grabbing a cup of coffee, while Gekko trailed behind, still feeling the warmth from their time together. His gaze flickered to Jett, who was wolfing down her food, completely oblivious to the underlying changes between them.

"Yo, you two sleep in or something?" Phoenix asked, his eyes narrowing as he finally looked up. "Must've been a long night."

Gekko froze for a moment, not sure how to respond. The comment, though innocent, made his stomach flip. But Iso, ever composed, didn't miss a beat.

"Something like that," Iso replied, taking a sip of his coffee with that calm, collected demeanor that always left people guessing.

Phoenix raised an eyebrow, glancing between them, but before he could pry further, Sage intervened.

"Give them a break, Phoenix," she said smoothly. "We all need rest after yesterday."

Jett, seemingly oblivious to the underlying subtext, just nodded in agreement. "For real. I'm still feeling it. I swear if we don't get at least a day off, I might actually lose it."

Gekko chuckled, feeling some of the tension melt away. Iso's hand brushed lightly against his as he set his cup down, a small but reassuring touch that made Gekko's heart race. Even amidst the team, there was something intimate about the connection they shared, something that no one else needed to understand.

As the morning went on, the team settled into their usual routines—checking equipment, reviewing intel, and waiting for the next mission. But despite the normalcy of it all, Gekko couldn't help but feel different. There was a new sense of balance between him and Iso, something steady and certain that hadn't been there before.

At one point, when the others were distracted, Iso caught Gekko's eye across the room. It was a brief glance, but the intensity in it spoke volumes. They didn't need to talk about what had happened last night—not yet. They had time to figure it out, time to let things unfold naturally.

Later in the day, as the team sat around discussing their next operation, Gekko's focus wavered. His mind kept drifting back to Iso—to the way he had looked at him that morning, to the way their relationship had shifted into something deeper, something more real.

"Gekko," Phoenix said, snapping him out of his thoughts. "You with us, man?"

Gekko blinked, sitting up straighter. "Yeah, sorry. Just... thinking."

Phoenix shot him a look that was half-amused, half-curious, but didn't press the issue. "Alright, just stay sharp. We've got a mission briefing in an hour."

Gekko nodded, trying to push aside his wandering thoughts. But as the team continued their discussion, he felt Iso's presence beside him—a constant, grounding force. They were in this together now, in a way that went beyond the battlefield, beyond the missions.

As the meeting wrapped up, Gekko lingered behind, waiting until the others had left the room. Iso, as if sensing his hesitation, stayed behind as well, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, watching him.

"You alright?" Iso asked, his voice low, the concern in it evident.

Gekko nodded, moving closer. "Yeah. Just... adjusting, I guess."

Iso's gaze softened as he pushed off the wall, stepping closer until they were face-to-face. "It's new," he said quietly, his hand reaching out to gently touch Gekko's arm. "But we'll figure it out. Like we always do."

Gekko smiled, feeling that familiar warmth spread through his chest. "You're right. I'm just overthinking, as usual."

Iso's lips curved into a small smile, his thumb brushing lightly over Gekko's skin. "I don't mind. It's one of the things I like about you."

The words, simple as they were, sent a jolt through Gekko. He leaned in, pressing his forehead against Iso's, savoring the quiet moment between them. For so long, they had been fighting their feelings, dancing around the inevitable. But now, there was no more hiding.

They were in this—together.

After a moment, Iso pulled back, his hand lingering on Gekko's arm. "We should get ready for the briefing."

Gekko nodded, but before they stepped out, he caught Iso's hand, squeezing it gently. "Thanks for... everything. For being patient with me."

Iso's expression softened even more, his thumb brushing over Gekko's knuckles. "We're in this for the long haul, Gekko. Patience is the easy part."

And with that, they stepped out of the room, side by side, ready to face whatever came next. The bond between them, stronger than ever, was no longer something they needed to hide. It was something they could finally embrace, no matter what challenges lay ahead.
