The moon hung high, casting an ethereal glow through the dense trees as Trevor and Aria pressed deeper into the woods. Each step felt heavier, and an oppressive silence enveloped them. The faint whisper they'd heard earlier echoed in Trevor's mind, spurring him on.
"Trevor, do you really think we'll find them?" Aria asked, her voice trembling.
"I have to believe we will," he replied, clenching his jaw. "Mia and Nyx wouldn't just leave us. They're out here somewhere."
As they moved through the underbrush, Trevor spotted something glinting in the moonlight—a bracelet. He recognized it immediately. "This is Mia's!" he exclaimed, picking it up. "We're getting closer."
Aria's eyes widened. "What if we find them? What if something is wrong?"
"We have to keep going," Trevor urged, determination flooding his veins. They followed the trail the bracelet had led them down, but the deeper they ventured, the more the atmosphere shifted. A chill ran through the air, as if the woods themselves were warning them to turn back.
Suddenly, Trevor halted, sensing movement ahead. "Did you see that?" he whispered, pointing toward a shadow flitting between the trees.
"Maybe it's Nyx!" Aria's hope ignited, but Trevor felt unease settle in his stomach.
They crept closer, hearts pounding in rhythm with their footsteps. The shadows thickened, and an unnatural silence fell over the clearing. Then they saw her—Nyx, standing with her back turned, gazing into the depths of the forest.
"Nyx!" Trevor shouted, relief washing over him. "It's us!"
Slowly, Nyx turned around, her face pale and eyes hollow, as if something had drained her spirit. A chill ran down Trevor's spine. "I've been waiting for you," she said, her voice unsettlingly calm.
