Logan and I are sitting in the living room. The room is quiet, except for the soft sounds of our six-month-old son sleeping in his crib. The past few months have been pretty intense, and we’re trying to find a moment for ourselves.
"I never thought raising a little boy would be so challenging. Sometimes it feels like I'm just busy all day," I say, holding a cup of tea.
Logan nods in agreement. "Yeah, it’s a lot of work. But we’ll manage," he says.
Suddenly, the door bursts open, and Wade storms into the living room without knocking. "Hey, you two! What’s up?" he grins.
"Wade, couldn’t you have come a bit later?" Logan asks with a slightly annoyed tone.
Wade ignores the question and plops down on the couch right next to me. "I heard you're pregnant again. That's a surprise!" says Wade.
I feel a bit nervous. "Yeah, it’s unplanned, but we’re handling it," I say. Wade grins widely. "Unplanned, huh? Logan, that’s quite an achievement. How do you keep falling into the same trap? Do you really need to make things so exciting?" Wade grins.
Logan looks visibly uneasy and annoyed. He tries to stay calm. "Wade, this is really not the time for comments like that," Logan says. Wade shrugs. "Oh, come on, Logan. It’s funny. It seems like you just can’t get enough of diapers and sleepless nights. Maybe you should try contraception, just a suggestion," Wade says, shrugging.
I try to steer the conversation. "Wade, that’s not helpful. We know it’s going to be challenging, but we’ll do our best," I say.
"Well, that’s a nice optimism," Wade says with a quiet laugh. "Maybe I should make you a list of tips on surviving with two babies. Or better yet, how to keep Logan from making a third!" Wade says.
Logan becomes visibly angry and stands up. "Wade, I’ve already told you to stop. These comments are not only inappropriate, they’re hurtful," Logan says.
"Oh, Logan, relax. I’m just joking," Wade says, sitting back down. "But seriously, you have to admit you have a real talent for surprises. Maybe you should really consider taking a course on responsibility," Wade laughs a bit. I feel increasingly frustrated and try to calm down. "Wade, that’s enough. We’ve had enough of your comments. We just want some peace and no more stress," I say, slightly annoyed by his constant comments.
Wade finally stands up and heads to the door. "Okay, okay, I get it. But remember, if you need more advice or someone to make you laugh, I’m always here," he grins.
"Thanks, Wade," Logan says, and I look at Logan as the door closes behind Wade. "I’m sorry it was so uncomfortable," Logan says.
Logan pulls me into a comforting embrace. "It’s okay. I’m just glad it’s over. We need to focus on ourselves now," I say.
Logan nods and holds me close. "Yes, we’ll get through this together, no matter how challenging it gets," Logan says.
We sit back on the couch and try to enjoy the remaining quiet while the world outside goes on and our little son sleeps peacefully. Despite the exhausting comments and the unplanned situation, we know we can rely on each other and face this new challenge together.
