That night, as Faye sat in her dorm room, staring out at the mist-covered grounds of Heartseeker, something shifted inside her. Her frustration had reached its breaking point. She couldn't go on like this—constantly being mocked, pushed, and belittled. She had to find out why she was here, why she had been chosen for this world of magic when she didn't seem to have any power of her own.
Her greenish-gold eyes flickered with determination as she reached into her pocket and pulled out the one thing that tied her to her past—the small, silver key her mother had left her. She had never understood its purpose, but tonight, it felt different in her hand, as though it was pulsing with a faint, unfamiliar energy.
She held it up to the moonlight, the silver metal glinting faintly. For the first time, she felt a strange tug at the back of her mind, a whisper that seemed to come from deep within her.
Maybe she did belong here. Maybe there was more to her than she knew.
But whatever the truth was, she would find it.
