The air in the Realms was thick with tension, as though the very atmosphere was charged with unseen magic. The eerie glow of the moon above bathed the forest in silver light, casting long, shifting shadows that seemed to dance around Faye as she moved deeper into the twisted woods.
She felt lost. In every sense of the word.
It wasn't just the woods that confused her—it was everything. The discovery that her mother was part of the Dayriver Line, an ancient faerie family, had thrown her already fragile sense of identity into chaos. For so long, she had thought she was just a girl—ordinary, powerless, an outsider in a world of magic. But now, everything has changed. She wasn't just an outsider anymore; she was part of this deadly game in ways she never could have imagined.
The trees creaked around her, the branches shifting unnaturally, almost as if the forest itself was alive, watching her every move. The path ahead seemed to stretch endlessly into darkness, twisting and turning, but never leading anywhere. Faye glanced back over her shoulder, her greenish-gold eyes catching the faint light through the fog. She had been walking for hours, but the landscape hadn't changed.
She was truly lost.
And then there was Kieran. The Prince of Faerie was both a guide and an enigma, his motives always clouded in shadow. One moment, he was cold, distant, the next, he was revealing truths about her bloodline that changed everything. He had warned her that the stories knew her, but what did that mean? Why were the Realms hunting her? The questions swirled in her mind, but there were no answers. Not yet.
She wasn't sure if she could trust him, but she didn't have much choice. Without Kieran's knowledge of the realms, she would have been dead already.
