Pháos-The Son of Polites

-By Magic Mike

------

Stuck...stuck in a cave with his best friend Odysseus and his other friends by a cyclops that was pissed at them for killing his sheep. Everyone is screaming, fighting and asking for directions. Of course, being the way he was Odysseus was able to spit out directions left and right all while keeping everyone levelheaded. Polites did his best to try and keep up while also protecting his friends from the cyclops' giant hands that were slamming down almost every other second in a desperate attempt to kill them.

"Be careful, Polites!!" Odysseus called out to him. "Remember don't get too close."

"You got it!" Polites yelled back with that bright...hopeful smile of his.

Odysseus loved that smile. It was his light, his guided his peace in a dark place, a reminder that everything was going to be ok. And it was going to be ok...or so he thought. As they are fighting, the cyclops pulls out something...something big, something powerful.

"Watch out!!"

"POLITES DON'T-"

SLAM...

Silence rang from every wall of the cave until...

"Captain..."

Polites weakly called out to his best friend...who didn't move. How could he? He just watched his best friend get hit by a giant club to protect Perimedes from the impact. With his last remaining moments, he could see his life flashing before his eyes...as the screams of his other comrades became more and more faint at an increasing rate.

He could see him and Odysseus starting this journey, him and the other soldiers at war...fighting Trojans. He could also see his love....Dimidia. How he met her, how they fell in love, how he was supposed to be marrying her after he got home. He would never get that chance now. But lastly...the one that pained him...the one that made him feel even more guilty: He saw his son...Iciro. The poor fourteen-year-old boy he adopted about ten years ago. He had just turned four when Polites claimed him as his own. He had already lost his birth mother and father when he was only three. Polites made a promise that Iciro would never lose another parent...it was a promise Polites could not keep. With a heavy heart he closed his eyes.

"Please..." He said. "I pray to the Gods and ask them to protect my dear friends that are still alive after this attack...protect my estranged...my lovely Dimidia, my wife...the one I asked for her hand in marriage all those years ago and lastly..."

He paused...

"Lastly please...protect my baby boy. My pride, my joy...please protect Iciro. For he's a young boy and I was not able to teach him how to fend for himself. Keep him safe from harm for he's a curious and somewhat fearless child like his father...I beg the Gods...protect my baby Indigo..."

And with that...his body gave out...for he couldn't hold out any longer. His body was now stuck right there...in that very cave...for all eternity.
