TW: eating disorder
MADDIE'S POV
"What is sweetheart?" Taylor asks helping me into the car.
"They're so mean, a-and something else happened, I-I don't want to go back, I can't go back," I say starting to cry again.
"I'm sorry Mads, I am, but I can't take you with me, I'm not your legal guardian, and they'll never let me adopt you if they think I kidnapped you," Taylor says. I nod. "Stay with me until the normal school day ends, at 3:00, just make sure to stay calm at home, and please, PLEASE, call me. Or text me."
"Okay, I love you," I say.
"I love you more Mads, let's get some food and watch a movie," Taylor says. Oh shit. I don't want to eat right now. Everybody was saying I looked bigger, and that I needed to lose weight. I can't let Taylor know. I just silently nod my head. We walk inside and I sit on the couch while Taylor makes some sandwiches for lunch. I quietly eat the sandwich and sigh. I can always just throw it up later. I look up at Taylor.
"Can I go take a nap? I'm really tired," I say. Taylor nods.
"Your room has your name on the door," Taylor says. I nod and walk upstairs. I found my room and the bathroom connecting it. I stick two fingers down my throat carefully and throw up the sandwich. I lay down curled up in bed and started to cry. I didn't realize how loud I was until Taylor had come upstairs and wrapped her arms around me comfortingly. I start to sob.
"T-Tay, I want to leave," I say.
"And go where sweetheart?" Taylor asks.
"Away, I don't want to be here anymore," I say shakily.
"No, Maddie, don't say that, you deserve to be here, you are so loved, it's just a little hard right now," Taylor says.
"By who, nobody loves or cares about me."
"I do, Mads, I love you so much," Taylor says and I look up at her with tears still falling down my cheeks. I lean into Taylor's lap and she gently rubs my back, calming me down. We lay together until 3:00. Taylor drops me off at my house and I walk in, terrified about whats to come.
TAYLOR'S POV
As soon as Maddie leaves, I call Tree.
"Tree, we need the adoption papers, they have to be done within this week, Maddie can't do it, she's falling apart," I say.
"Okay, the papers can be sent to you in a few days, Maddie will be fine at her house though, inspectors said the house looked good and the couple was nice. Just saying, she'll be fine," Tree says.
"I don't think so, Tree, but I don't want to argue with you. So, please just send the papers as soon as you can, thanks, bye," I say and then hang up the phone. I don't know why Tree doesn't believe her, but as long as Maddie will be safe soon, everything will be okay.
