"Dear brother, how are things going? How are you? I know that we communicate a little while ago and I always do that question, but just to make sure. Anyway, I hope all is well!
So, I have some news these past few days: Susan, as was to be expected, is coming out with a new guy (do not know his name, I don't even try more record their names). She, like you, is studying much, at least. Peter asks a lot for you! And I can not forget that mom, dad and I were recently in aunt Alberta. Eustace, as always, talking about our adventure in Narnia and how he can not wait to go back there and find Aslan again. Oh, how we talked! He said that very misses you and the noogies you used to give him! Anyway, I think that's all (I thought had more news to tell).
I almost forget: mom blow a kiss and dad a hug.
I miss you!
With love,
Lucy. "
I folded the letter I just read, leaned back on the couch and looking up, I snorted. All I could think about was Eustace that one day would return to Narnia. "Lucky!" I thought.
Sinking in my thoughts, I fell asleep.
-------------------------------------------------- ------
I woke up desperate with the alarm clock.
Running a hand on my head, I glanced at the clock on my right wrist.
- What ?! Oh no! I'm late for work!
Up from the couch dazed. I grabbed my bag and ...
- The keys! Where are the keys? - I said, lifting each sofa cushion, throwing some to the ground.
I looked around and I saw on top of the letter from Lucy, on the coffee table. I took them, got out of my little room and locked the door.
-------------------------------------------------- ----------------
- Late again! - said the boss, pointing to the clock above the entrance door, and it pointed 14:53 p.m.
- Pardon! It will not happen again!
- That's what you said yesterday.
I felt kinda shy.
- Anyway, we're not having much movement today. In fact, no one came through these doors yet. - Sir Thomas said, putting his hands in his pockets and withdrew.
I hung my bag and my jacket anywhere and sat at the counter. I took an adventure book in any one of the shelves, sat down and began to read.
My days were as follows: In the morning, literature in college. In the afternoon, work in the library (best job in the world, for that matter!). And the night, alone in the small but cozy house that my father got me through a known him. London was different now after all this time of war. The center was hectic for me. City? I do not know if it fit me well. A part of me, yes. Elsewhere, no. But there I was. Living the life that before I did not dream. Away from my parents. Away from my brothers. Far from Narnia ...
My reality was quite different from what I wanted, what I craved. But little I could do. Unless sink into that daunting and stressful routine. What eased all of this was my work, where I could consume books while no one appeared there. Apart from that, I was devoured by the routine. A life where I could not find more grace. But hope somehow was still alive.
-------------------------------------------------- -------
About twenty minutes later, someone walked in the door. Some voices appeared in the air, but I did not raised my gaze until then, so I was immersed in my reading. A soft voice was over the counter.
- Excuse ...
So soft voice that made me looking up from the book. It was a short girl, quite white skin, curly hair a light brown. Her eyes were bright, color honey. And a slight smile on her face.
- Oh ... Yes, can I help you? - I asked.
- I would like to read a book of fantasy... adventure ...
- Seriously, Sophia? - asked one of the boys who were with her, which I had not noticed before.
- Come on, Sophia! - said the other.
- Just a minute. Wait just a minute! - She said reluctantly, looking at them.
- So, do you have any? - she said, addressing me again.
- Oh ... Yes, indeed, we have many here. This, for example, may be exactly what you want. - I showed the book in my hand.
- Um... Can I?
- Of Course!
She took the book from my hand and examined it for a minute.
- Well, I think I'm going to leave this one! Oh no. You were reading it right now. I do not want to disrupt your reading. I'd better take it when you have already done ...
- No, it's alright. You can take it. The first two chapters are fantastic, so I think you'll like it a lot. - I said, insisting that she take him.
- Takes soon! - said her companions.
- Okay! - she chuckled. - Ignore my brothers. They are very impatient and do not like books, libraries ...
- What a pity! They do not know what they are missing. - I whispered to her, smiling.
She smiled back, and after look me in the eyes for a few seconds, she just said "yes."
I marked with her the day she was supposed to bring the book back and all these little "bureaucracies" of a library.
- Well, thank you very much! - She said with that smile.
- You're welcome! - I reciprocates.
She was opening the door to leave, when she came back and said:
- Oh, my name is Sophia. - She reached out.
- I am Edmund. - I shook my hand.
Strangely, shaking those hands, look in those eyes, and seeing that smile, so unknown until then, warmed my heart in a way I had not felt a long time.
She walked out the door with her two brothers, and I was there, with the feeling that that day was no longer a mere cold and pale autumn day.
