Standing in front of my mirror, I adjusted the collar of my robes one last time, trying to ignore the flutter of nerves in my stomach. The summer sun poured through the window, illuminating the mess of Quidditch posters and textbooks scattered around my room. Today marked the beginning of my Auror training at the Ministry of Magic, and I could hardly believe it was finally happening.
I turned to see Sirius leaning against the doorframe, that familiar grin plastered on his face. His messy black hair fell into his eyes, making him look effortlessly charming. "Ready to take on the world, Grace?" he teased.
I rolled my eyes, a smile creeping onto my face. "More like ready to take on the Ministry."
He stepped closer, wrapping his arms around my waist, pulling me against him. "I know you'll be amazing. Just remember to give them your signature Potter charm." His tone shifted to mock seriousness. "And try not to scare them off with your intense enthusiasm."
I laughed, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves bubbling inside me. "I can't help it! This is my dream. I want to make a difference."
"I know you will," he said softly, his expression sincere. "But just in case, I'm here to provide moral support and good looks."
"Right, because you're the expert on being good-looking," I shot back, playfully nudging him.
As I grabbed my bag, my heart swelled with affection. Sirius had been my rock through everything—his unwavering support made me feel unstoppable.
Walking side by side to the Ministry, the streets of London buzzed with summer energy. Muggles hurried past, oblivious to the magical world beneath the surface. I took a deep breath, inhaling the scent of blooming flowers mixed with the distant sound of laughter. Today was a fresh start, and I was determined to embrace it.
Arriving at the Ministry, my nerves kicked in. I glanced at Sirius, who flashed a reassuring smile. "You've got this, Grace. Just be yourself, and they'll see how incredible you are."
"Thanks, Sirius," I said, grateful for his presence. We stepped into the imposing building, the cool air inside a stark contrast to the warmth outside. As I walked through the bustling corridors, my determination grew.
When we paused outside the training room, I turned to him, a playful glint in my eyes. "So, when I'm a top Auror, remember who helped me get there. I expect a cushy desk job when I'm running the place."
"Deal," he replied, his voice warm. I leaned in, brushing my lips against his in a brief kiss, savoring the moment. "I'll always need my lucky charm."
"Always," he said softly, his gaze steady.
Taking a deep breath, I squared my shoulders and stepped inside the training room. The moment I crossed the threshold, a surge of determination coursed through me. I could feel Sirius's gaze on my back, a grounding presence that made my heart race with confidence.
As I stepped into the training room, the air buzzed with a mix of excitement and apprehension. Rows of desks filled with fellow recruits buzzed with conversation, each one just as eager and anxious as I was. I scanned the room, looking for a familiar face when suddenly, I spotted Alice and Frank over by the far wall.
"Alice! Frank!" I called, waving excitedly. Their heads snapped in my direction, and Alice's face lit up with a broad smile as she rushed over.
"Grace! You made it!" she exclaimed, pulling me into a tight hug. Frank followed, grinning as he joined the embrace.
"It's so good to see you!" I said, stepping back to take them in. Alice's hair was tied back in a neat bun, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm, while Frank looked as confident as ever, his hands stuffed in his pockets.
