The day of the Quidditch final against Hufflepuff dawned bright and clear, excitement crackling in the air like electricity. The Gryffindor common room was buzzing with anticipation as everyone donned their red and gold scarves, ready to support our team. I was seated with Lily, trying to keep my nerves at bay as we prepared to head to the pitch.
"Are you ready for this?" Lily asked, adjusting her scarf and shooting me a playful grin.
"As ready as I'll ever be," I replied, my heart racing at the thought of the game. "I just hope the boys are on their A-game today."
"Let's go give them a proper send-off," Lily suggested, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm.
We made our way to the pitch, the cheers of our fellow Gryffindors growing louder with each step. As we approached the team's locker area, I spotted James pacing nervously while Sirius leaned against the wall, arms crossed and looking effortlessly cool, but I could see the flicker of determination in his eyes.
"Boys!" Lily called out, her voice cutting through the pre-game tension. They all turned to us, and I felt a flutter of nerves mixed with excitement.
"Good luck out there!" I said, giving James a thumbs-up. He grinned, the familiar cockiness shining through.
Sirius pushed himself off the wall and stepped closer to me, his expression softening. "And you? Are you ready for all the cheering you'll be doing?"
I rolled my eyes, trying to play it cool. "You mean for all the times I'll be yelling at you not to get hit by a Bludger?"
He chuckled, the sound warm and inviting. "Fair point. But I'll be sure to impress you. Just watch."
"Impress me? You'd better!" I teased back, though my heart fluttered at the way he looked at me.
"Hey, I'm not just here to impress you. I'm here to win!" he said, his tone playful yet sincere.
"Just remember to keep your eye on the game, not just on me," I replied, trying to mask the warmth flooding my cheeks.
Sirius stepped even closer, the crowd around us fading away for a moment. "You know, if we win, maybe I'll take you out to celebrate," he said, his voice low and suggestive.
"Maybe?" I echoed, feeling a mixture of excitement and nervousness. "You'd better win then!"
"Count on it," he replied, his confidence radiating as he gave me a quick wink before turning back to join the rest of the team.
Lily nudged me with a knowing smile as we stepped back, leaving the boys to their pre-game rituals. "Did you see that? There's definitely something there!"
"I know," I admitted, still feeling the warmth from his gaze. "But we'll see what happens after the game."
As we settled into the stands, the atmosphere became electric. The crowd erupted in cheers as the players took to the pitch. My heart raced with each passing moment, and I could hardly focus on anything but the game ahead.
When the whistle blew, the match kicked off with intensity. James soared through the air as the Seeker, while Sirius was a blur on the field, expertly dodging Bludgers as he took his position as Beater. Every time he struck the ball, the crowd roared, and my heart swelled with pride.
As the game progressed, Gryffindor fought hard against Hufflepuff's relentless defense. I found myself on the edge of my seat, cheering for our team with every ounce of energy I had. The tension built, and the stakes felt higher than ever.
Finally, after a nail-biting series of plays, James spotted the Snitch and raced toward it. The crowd erupted as he caught it, sealing our victory! I jumped to my feet, squealing with delight, and exchanged a victorious glance with Lily.
