[Jungkook's POV]
I sat on the edge of my bed, the warm glow of the bedside lamp casting soft shadows across the room. My heart pounded, a strange mix of nerves and excitement bubbling inside me as I stared at my phone.
Calling Grandma Charlotte always stirred up emotions I couldn't quite describe. She wasn't just my grandmother-she was royalty, after all-but to me, she was also the woman who had nurtured me through all the stages of my life.
I bit my lip and hesitated, my thumb hovering over her contact name. Come on, Jungkook. It's Grandma... she won't bite.
With a deep breath, I hit the call button and raised the phone to my ear. The familiar sound of the dial tone hummed in the silence. One ring, two rings...
"Ah, finally! His Royal Highness deigns to call his poor old grandmother," a voice, sharp and unmistakably British, greeted me on the other end.
A smile tugged at my lips despite myself. "Hi, Grandma."
"Hi? Just 'hi'? Not a single letter, not a call for days, and now you dare say 'hi' as if I've been hearing from you every day. Hmph!" Her voice held that usual edge of sarcasm, but I could hear the warmth behind it. She always knew how to make me squirm.
I scratched the back of my neck, feeling heat rise to my cheeks. "I'm sorry, Grandma. It's been... busy."
"Busy! Busy, you say. Tell me, is your phone allergic to dialing numbers? Or perhaps you've completely forgotten how to operate it?"
I laughed, the sound bubbling up before I could stop it. "I swear I haven't forgotten. I've just-well, there's been a lot going on. I've missed you though."
There was a brief pause, and I could imagine her on the other side, sitting in her grand chateau with that knowing smile on her face. "Mm, you can't sweet-talk me, my dear. But I suppose I'll forgive you... this time."
"Thank you, Your Royal Highness," I teased, adding a playful bow though she couldn't see it.
"Ah, now you remember my title. See, you're learning." There was a hint of a chuckle in her voice now. "Now, enough of this. How are you, Jungkook? Truly."
I sighed, leaning back against the headboard. "I'm good. Really good, actually. Things have been... different. Busy, like I said, but in a good way."
"Different, you say? You sound far too cryptic for your own good. Care to explain what 'different' means? Have you been able to woo the lady you set your eyes on or are you still chasing after her like a lovesick puppy?"
I couldn't help but laugh, the image of me trailing after Y/n flashing in my mind. "No, no, it's not like that. She feels the same way. It's... mutual."
"Well, good! About time someone could keep up with you," she teased. "And? Have you made your intentions known to her family, or are you sneaking around like a scoundrel?"
