[Y/n's POV]
We were just getting back home from the graduation dinner when my mom called Jungkook over. I could tell she was in one of her organizing moods, the kind that left no room for debate.
As soon as we stepped into the house, she had this wide smile on her face, the type that said, "I’ve got a mission for you two."
“Alright,” she started, her voice all business, “it’s time we start thinking about the engagement rings. I’ve got some designs in mind, but I want to know what you two think.”
Jungkook and I exchanged glances, still riding the high of the day. Graduation, dinner, Hyunsik’s teasing—it all felt like a blur.
And now, rings? It was surreal, like everything was moving too fast, but at the same time, not fast enough.
We sat down at the dining table, where my parents were already looking through a glossy catalog of diamonds and gold bands. The light from the chandelier overhead made the pages shimmer.
My mom started pointing out different cuts, diamonds that sparkled in ridiculous ways. “There’s the princess cut, the oval, or what do you think about the cushion cut?”
Jungkook was being polite, nodding along as my parents debated between classic designs and more modern trends.
But I could feel something shift in him, like his mind was elsewhere. I was about to ask if he was okay when he gently took my hand, his thumb brushing over my knuckles.
It was a small gesture, but it was enough to catch my attention—and, apparently, everyone else’s.
“What’s up?” I asked quietly, feeling the warmth of his touch spread through me.
Jungkook didn’t answer right away. He just stared at my hand, at the silver moon-shaped ring I wore on my ring finger.
The one he had given me years ago before he left for London. It was simple, almost modest, but it held more value than any of the diamonds my mom was pointing at. I hadn’t taken it off since the day he gave it to me.
[Reference to only the blue moon ring on the right side, not the sun-shaped ring on the left]
He looked up at my parents, his voice softer than usual but filled with something deep. “Actually… I’ve been thinking about this for a while.” He raised my hand slightly, showing them the ring.
“I’d like to use this for our engagement.”
Both my mom and dad paused, their eyes shifting from the glossy catalog to the ring on my finger.
The room suddenly felt still, like the air itself had stopped moving. My mom leaned in closer, her eyes narrowing as she examined the silver band.
Jungkook cleared his throat, and I could tell he was trying to explain without sounding too emotional, but there was no way he could avoid it.
