CHAPTER THREE - RESTLESS

It had been about a week since I joined the hotel, and it wasn't all that bad, to be honest. A snake sinner had decided to try for redemption yesterday, Sir Pentious. I recognized him from his numerous attempts to take part of my territory. I learned he had also challenged Alastor regularly, and always failed.

Another thing I learned: Alastor's memory is amazing. I already knew that, but anyways. His memory is great, except for when it came to Pentious. Thing is, he only remembered him AFTER he ripped his coat. Which didn't even change the look of his coat because it was ALREADY ripped.

I swear, that man is so confusing.

Anyways, back to the present. It was about 2AM, and I have yet to fall asleep. It sucks, truly. I needed to be up early tomorrow because Vox needs a meeting with me for something. I assume because he's learned of me being near Alastor.

I never got their friendship-turned-rivalry, but maybe that's because they're both powerful, childish men who are too obsessed with technology.

But, whatever. I was roaming the halls of the hotel currently, in my night clothing, of course with my skull.

I walked until I found the entertainment hall, which was really just a big ballroom with a stage with instruments, including a piano. When I was younger and alive, I took piano lessons and continued to play throughout my life.

I scuttled over to the stage, hopping up before taking a seat beside the piano.

(a/n: i just. i loved this song. i needed to incorporate it into one of my fanfics at some point. plus it needs to be more popular. so here you go)

As I played, the alluring melody of the piano pulled another resident into the hall, not that I noticed.

~ ALASTOR'S POV ~

I didn't sleep. Not since I fell into Hell. I didn't have to, so I didn't. Plus, I rather enjoyed it whenever I was walking around the Hotel for one thing or another and I scared a resident leaving their room, usually for a glass of water or a midnight snack, and it was usually Vaggie.

I so enjoyed fear.

My smile was more forced than usual, now. Ever since Hecate had arrived to the hotel, she constantly used every chance she could to tease or annoy me.

She knew how to make me tic, everything that would make me want to tear her limb from limb and watch as the life faded from her eyes.

I couldn't, however. I still had too many questions and so little answers. I also still had too many suspicious as to who she really was.

Anyways, I heard a piano playing from the entertainment hall. I had no idea who could've been playing, to my knowledge everyone was asleep as well as not being able to play a piano. Maybe I was wrong, though.

I hummed quietly as I opened the door to the hall, the door creaking quietly.

To my surprise, Hecate was sitting at the piano, playing that beautiful little tune that drew me here. I wasn't aware she could play piano, but she could.

And so could Marcy.

I shoved those thoughts out of my head, there wasn't enough evidence for that.

"Hello." I said when she was done with her song, my voice echoing.

She jumped slightly, her neck snapping to stare straight at me. "Hello." She responded.

"What are you doing up this late?" I inquired. I didn't care much for the actual reason, I was just trying to not make it awkward. I hated when things were awkward.

"I couldn't sleep, even if I have an important meeting in the morning." She muttered, scooting over on the chair and turning her body fully, now facing me. I blushed, noticing she was in her nightgown.

(a/n: IT FOES DOWN TO HER KNEES!!! ANKLES!!!! IM SOBBING AND PISSING IN REAL LIFE 😱😱😱😱😱)

"Oh, an important meeting, hmm?" I hummed. "With whom, may I ask?"

Her face got a smidge more nervous. I knew she wasn't scared of me, of course. That wasn't her. "Uhm- Vox." She answered.

A static sound grew in the air, piercing both her and my ears. I hated that I did that when I was mad and I hated that I couldn't control it.

My brows furrowed and my grip on my cane tightened. "Why?" The static in my voice fell nearly silent. I could never get rid of it, it was always there, but I could make it nearly sound like it wasn't there.

"That's a question I'd love to have the answer to, as well." Hecate grumbled, the skeletal horns on her head growing slightly with agitation. "I swear, he always does stuff like this. But, anyways, why are you up?" She questioned, standing and jumping off the stage, stopping in front of me. She was taller than me by about two inches.

"I don't sleep. I haven't slept since I fell into Hell. I don't think I'm capable of it, really." I replied, my head tilting and my ears falling to the side slightly.

She giggled slightly at the sight, her tail flicking slightly. "Y'know, I've been wondering..." She trailed off and I looked at her in interest.

"What would that be, dear?" I implored.

"...do you have a tail? Since you're a deer and you have the ears and antlers and all that."

My eyes widened then narrowed. "That's for me to know."

"Fair." She shrugged and side-stepped me to leave the hall. "I'd best be getting to bed now."

"Well, good night." I said gently.

"Good night." She nodded, looking over her shoulder at me before leaving.

That was weird. That was our first conversation without one tease or annoying comment.

What an odd encounter.
