CHAPTER NINE - MEETING

Now that I wasn't frazzled from my encounter with Azrael, I noticed Vaggie look on edge herself. She kept glancing nervously towards Adam and Lute, almost looking pleading.

I gave her a worried glance, to where she merely gave me a small, fake smile and turning back to the court.

"We are gathered here today to determine whether or not a soul in Hell can be redeemed into the heavenly realm by means of this Hazbin Hotel. Princess Morningstar?" Sera prompted, turning her gaze to Charlie.

Charlie exhaled. "Thank you, Seraphim-"

Before Charlie could continue, she was cut off by Adam. "Hold it, babe. What're the sinners doing here?" He gestured to Alastor and I, oddly leaving out Vaggie. "They're supposed to stay in Hell, blondie." He sneered.

Charlie looked surprised by this moment of questioning, being rendered speechless for a moment before I stepped in. "Excuse me, First Man," I bowed slightly, "Seraphim," I bowed deeper to Sera and Emily, "for my unprompted speech, but the Princess has every right to bring Alastor and I up here. We both work there, are powerful in Hell, and could probably make for the best example for her. Yes, we do participate in sin and have no desire to be redeemed..."

"Ex-" Lute attempted to cut me off, but I swiftly continued.

"...but we haven't been nearly as sinful prior to joining the hotel. Neither Alastor nor I have harmed a single soul since we started participating in the hotel. Although, neither of us regularly participate in the Princess' activities, I can see the positive effect they have on the sinners that are staying there. Thank you for letting me speak." I bowed again and stepped back. Charlie almost had stars in her eyes, seeing me stand up against Adam. Quite the bold move from me, if I do say so myself.

Sera's eyes narrowed on me before she nodded. "Sustained, I suppose."

Charlie nearly leapt out of her seat at that, but she cleared her throat and spoke in a formal tone. "We have another patron, who has so much progress."

"And, uh, who's that?" Adam asked snidely.

"Angel Dust." Charlie responded confidently.

"Oh, yeah, the porn demon! Bet that's turning out reaaaal well!" Adam cackled.

I spoke up again. "First Man, how do you know Angel Dust is a porn star?"

He stilled at my words and scoffed. "Well, uh... none of your business, bitch!" He retorted, crossing his arms and pouting similarly to a child.

"What do you think it takes to get into Heaven?" Charlie asked, ignoring my question.

"Uh..." Adam trailed off.

Sera looked at him in confusion. "Is everything alright, Adam?"

"Yeah, gimme a fuckin' minute, bitch." Adam huffed, summoning a golden piece of paper and a pen. He scrawled a list on the paper.

"Act selfless, don't steal, stick it to the man... are you fucking serious?" Vaggie read aloud, and I snickered at his horrible handwriting. Chicken scratch, I tell ya.

"Uh, yeah, bitch. That's what got me into Heaven!" He said confidently before his voice dropped to a more anxious one. "Uh... right, Sera?" He glanced towards Sera, who in return looked down to some of the other angels present at the court.

"He was the first human soul in Heaven..." She muttered.

"I bet Angel is doing all those things right now!" Charlie said.

"Okay, then let's see it, bitch!" Adam laughed.

And so we watched as Angel, Husk, Niffty, Pentious, and Angel's friend, Cherri Bomb were at the club. Where the hell did they get the money to go there?

Cherri offered Angel a bunch of drugs. You could tell I was uneducated as all get-out in that subject because I had no idea what any of those were. You'd assume one of the most dangerous demons in Hell would atleast be aware of what drugs were what, but you'd be surprised. Judging from Alastor's look, he also probably didn't know. I guess that's just a pattern with overlords from the 1930s. Well, I mean, it was just the two of us but... you get what I mean.

"See? The porn star chose a night of sin and debauchery! That is not a soul worthy of being in Heaven!" Adam finally said after the projection on the orb we were watching the whole encounter on faded out.

"Have you seriously never had a drink with friends after a hard day?" Charlie said.

"Uh, no. We don't have hard days in Heaven. What do you think, Vaggie?" He replied, a hint of sass in his tone.

"I- uh... have to go to the bathroom!" Vaggie said hurriedly, dashing down the stairs and into the hall.

Soon, the projection started up again. I tuned it out as I glanced towards Alastor again. He was still silent. I guess he didn't have much to say. I mean, he also didn't really believe in redemption and politics usually weren't his thing. I get it, I suppose. Isn't mine, either.

Soon enough, after some fighting and bickering between the angels, Charlie spoke up and sang with Emily, much to Sera's displeasure. As it progressed, Adam and Lute joined in. Vaggie pleaded Adam to not say something, to which he ignored. "Why hide the fact that you're an angel just like us?"

I nearly froze at the words that spilled out of Adam's mouth. Vaggie? An angel, much less an Exorcist?

I snapped out of it when I noticed Charlie sobbing on the floor. My maternal instincts kicked in as I ran over to her and began comforting her. (Ooh, rare!) Alastor followed me and looked down at the two of us. I wasn't paying attention, but his smile faltered and his eyes looked almost... pained.

Vaggie ran over as well, crouching beside her crying lover as I enveloped Charlie in a comforting hug before we were sucked into a portal Adam summoned.

I muttered under my breath and stood up, carrying Charlie in my arms up to her and Vaggie's room. I severely doubted Vaggie would be going up there right now. She was an Exorcist but she was still a good girlfriend and is able to acknowledge when her girlfriend doesn't need her around. I appreciated her for that.

I set Charlie down on her bed once I got to the room and pulled the covers over her, still whispering comforting words. Eventually, I started telling her of stories that had taken place during my life, not my stories, but things I thought she might've found fun from my time period, or just fairytale stories I'd heard growing up.

Little did I know, a certain Radio Demon had followed us in via the shadows and listened the whole time, tears falling silently down his face as he kept smiling relentlessly. The scene almost reminded him of when he himself was a child and his mother comforted him after his father had a particularly bad day and took it out on them. Even when she was bleeding and bruised, she still protected him and comforted him. He saw that same thing in me. He had seen my reaction to the reveal, and he had also seen me brush it off to assist Charlie.

It also reminded him of Marcelline.
