Some people on this earth find joy in teaching. Though they may be cruel, cunning, or evil, they find passion in teaching someone something. Their happiness lies in witnessing the diversity of growth in younger generations and encouraging lifelong learning. Dr Krishna was no different from that. Although he couldn't become Dean of the Lakshmi Narayana Medical College in Mumbai, he continued to work in the hospital branch of Hyderabad and teach the interns with his knowledge. He may not have been true to his profession but his thoughts about teaching were always genuine. The other factor that motivated him to teach was the success of his students. Several of them successfully work in various parts of the country and some abroad.
Today he showed a group of young, dedicated interns in the emergency section who wore blue scrubs like him today, how to do simple interrupted sutures. He was doing it on a young, thin teenager who agreed to let the interns watch over him. He had injuries on his legs as he fell from a motorbike before crashing into a pole. They were all around the patient who was lying on the white bed. Beside them was a blue curtain covering from all sides.
"After holding the needle lock the needle holder so that the needle remains fixed between the scissors and is stable. Then you gently lift the skin with the forceps. Watch carefully how I lift it." Said Dr. Krishna as he gently lifted the skin with a pair of forceps.
Suturing was something he considered an art. Although it isn't like how a tailor stitches, it involves dealing with the flesh of a human and needs to be done carefully. For Dr. Krishna, the beauty of it lies in cleanliness one can do it.
"When you lift, make sure that you pierce the skin at ninety degrees angle with the needle to the skin. The entry point should be 4 millimeters from the wound edge. Then you can make the needle rise out of the wound."
Suddenly the curtain covering them from the patient's legs was pushed aside and a man in black trousers, a white shirt, and a black suit walked towards Dr Krishna, pushing the interns aside so he could quickly reach Dr Krishna. The pushed interns frowned at him while the others looked at him curiously. When he finally reached Dr Krishna, he whispered in his left ear to avoid others from knowing about it.
"Looks like we finally caught someone."
Dr. Krishna, stunned for a minute, stopped moving and looked at him, his eyes widened in shock. Finally, the one whom we wanted to catch would now have to answer him. He wanted to know who had done it and what the reason behind it was. However, he could not leave immediately.
"I am swamped today. In an emergency, bring that person to my cabin down here. I will finish suturing and come there."
"I will bring her right here then."
Saying this, the man turned around to leave but this left Dr Krishna in shock. He didn't expect someone to be caught this quickly. He expected the exposed to be careful now. Whoever this was, couldn't be this stupid. He now began to wonder if the person caught was just someone innocent. No matter who this was, he would look into every detail before making a decision.
Dr Krishna continued working but a part of him was also filled with rage. Somebody thought they could put him down and would not face any repercussions. Somebody thought he would not be exposed. Because of this recent scandal, his reputation was put at stake.
"Sir, your suturing skills are as good as art. So did it so smoothly."
A student's words pulled him back to the present. He realized that if he showed any kind of emotion now it would create curiosity and again if any information got leaked out in any way, he would land up in trouble.
Dr. Krishna looked at all the students who stood beside him. Although all wore masks, including himself, everyone's eyes were clear. He could see that their eyes reflected the passion that he once had. There was an eagerness in their eyes. At this stage, he was sure that they wanted to stand out just like him once. Perhaps if things didn't take such a drastic turn, he would have been just as straightforward as he was before.
Without wasting any more time he finished his work and removed his gloves. A nurse removed the suture materials tray as he pulled the curtain and walked out. He walked straight passing several blue curtains ahead until he pushed open a glass door. It was a small room where doctors would change their clothes from scrubs to normal clothes. At the back of the room was a wooden door from which they could escape an emergency.
Dr. Krishna picked his clothes from a hanging rail and walked inside a cubicle to change it. He went out wearing his formal white shirt and brown trousers. He then pushed open a gray door and walked out. Though he was secretly boiling with rage, he smiled broadly as he walked in the corridor. On the way he did greet some doctors and nurses but his mind was focused on what was going to happen.
After a few minutes, he reached a grey-colored door. Opening the door, he saw a girl on a chair who sat opposite his black rotating chair. She kept her hand on his dark brown table and got up, before turning to look at him. To his shock, it was the same girl whose interview impressed him the most.
"Dr. Sneha?" Said Dr. Krishna, widening his eyes in shock.
He stood stunned looking at the girl in front of him, who was now looking back at him in confusion. Never did he think that someone like her would fall under suspicion. As much as he was disappointed, he was also upset that he couldn't see through her.
'Was this her plan all along or is there something else?' He thought as he glared at her.
The only way he could find out was to speak with her.
