Dipper was on a boat. He could feel the wind as he looked out at the endless expanse of ocean. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath of the sea air. He stared out at the water feeling as though something is missing, before he can figure out what it is he feels a hand on his shoulder and turns but he can't make sense of what he's seeing.
His grunkles are supposed to be dead.
"What?" Ford says in confusion, as he and Stan slightly tilt their heads.
Dipper couldn't find words so he ran up and hugged them. Ford and Stan look at each other, puzzled by the boy's actions.
"Hey, kid are you okay?" Stan asks, concerned for the boy.
"I don't get it, you're both supposed to be dead." Dipper said to the two, now surprised, men. "You both died a couple months ago."
Ford and Stan exchanged another puzzled look "No, we didn't die, you must have dreamt it." Dipper felt relief run through him at his uncle's words and let out a blissful sigh, looking back to the water.
Suddenly the boat started to rock violently and the sky darkened. Dipper cried out turning to his uncles for reassurance but they were gone.
Dipper turned trying to look for them but they were nowhere to be seen.
"Grunkle Ford! Grunkle Stan!" Suddenly Dipper felt a hand on his shoulder, he turned with a smile, but it fell when he saw his grunkles glaring at him.
"Dipper, how could you do this?" Stan implicated "You're useless, I never should have trusted you" Ford said clearly upset with Dipper.
Dipper was close to tears when he heard this, "No, no I didn't mean to. It wasn't my fault." Dipper weeped. "You disappeared, I couldn't find you!" Dipper yelled "It's not my fault..." Dipper said, trying to convince himself he wasn't to blame.
He sat on the floor and kept saying "It's not my fault." over and over closing his eyes while doing so. When he opened his eyes he was standing in a pitch black room. He heard faint echoing laughter. He immediately recalled the laugh, but didn't know where he knew it from. When the laugh got louder, he froze realizing where he recognised it from.
When the laughter abruptly stopped Dipper was silent, he looked up terrified at the prospect of what he might see.
Sitting on the floor near him Dipper could make out a vaguely human shape in the dim lighting.
"Hey pinetree"
Dipper abruptly shot up with a scream, the memory of that voice, the voice he never wanted to hear again, was seared into his brain.
Dipper let out a shudder trying to think about why his brain would make him dream something like that. He then remembered that he never ate dinner last night and this was probably just his brain punishing him for it.
Dipper went down the hall to the kitchen, and looked at the clock groaning when he realized it was two in the morning. He grabbed a bowl, milk and frosted flakes cereal. While eating he went through his dream and came to only one possibility.
