CHAPTER SEVEN
A GUST OF BLUSH▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃
"I'm sure you did amazing, my child! Alright, bye-bye now. Don't forget to take proper meals, hm? We love you!"
You were sprawled out on your bed, phone in hand, having just hung up with your parents who were still halfway across the globe in America. It had been a few days since the UA entrance exam, and the waiting was starting to get to you.
There wasn't much to do. Your house was silent without anyone else around, video games were banned for now (unfortunately), and to top it all off, every convenience store in the neighborhood had apparently run out of strawberry milk—your go-to comfort.
At this point, all you could do was wait for the results, which felt like a slow form of torture.
You stared at the ceiling, the overthinking creeping in. You know you did okay. Presumably.
But what if my score wasn't enough? What if they don't want me? What if, with the limited capacity, they turn me down?
No way, you shook your head, sitting up. They'd be stupid not to take me. Right?
Even though you try to hype yourself up, the doubts kept clawing back. And because your brain couldn't just let you rest, it spiraled into ridiculous future plans.
Let me see here... if UA doesn't want me, I could drop out, start working part-time somewhere, save up enough money to buy a plane ticket and follow Mom and Dad all the way to America... Maybe I could—
Right on cue, Riri, your number one enemy, popped up from seemingly nowhere, hovering in the air with a wide grin. They haven't shown themselves to you in awhile, you had hoped they never show theirselves anymore. Their sudden appearance startled you out of your thoughts.
["You're like an open book, [Name]-chan!"] they said, with a sing-song tone. ["I'm sure you'll definitely get in!"]
You blinked at them, slightly surprised. That... was nice to hear. Even if it was coming from Riri, who wasn't exactly known for being the most emotionally supportive. It was uncharacteristically encouraging. You were almost touched.
But, of course, that moment didn't last long.
Riri's grin widened, and they waggled their eyebrows mischievously. ["Buuut, if you don't—well, I could always use some magic to, y'know, manipulate your results. That way, you'd get in for sure! Maybe end up in a class with some hot guys so I can get that bank—I mean, so you can get some romantic action for once!"]
You deadpanned immediately, any warm feelings evaporating. Ah, there it is.
"Yeah, no thanks," you replied dryly, giving Riri a flat stare.
["KILLJOY!"] Riri floated around you, gesturing dramatically.
You rubbed your temples. "I'm not turning my high school life into a harem anime, Riri."
Oh wait.
Nevermind. Haha, that's basically the goal here.
["Your loss!"] they pout, but you could see the mischievous glint in their eyes.
Despite their usual nonsense, Riri's attempt to cheer you up actually worked a little. As much as you wanted to roll your eyes at them, their ridiculous antics pulled you out of your overthinking spiral. Maybe you didn't need magic to manipulate the results. Maybe you just had to wait and see.
