CHAPTER NINETEEN
CURIOSITY CAN KILL THE CAT
▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃
What's his deal?
You could only smile as you watched Katsuki march off somewhere. Your gaze dropped to your phone, where a new contact stared back at you as you huffed out a quiet laugh, shaking your head.
Bakugou Katsuki was like an entirely different language—one that required time, patience, and maybe a translator to fully understand. You already knew at some point that he's not the type to spell things out for you when words weren't his strongest suit. But rather, actions were what he relied on.
And he hadn't even given you a proper answer to your question. Were you friends? Did he consider you one?
Judging by the ridiculous way he saved his own number on your phone, probably. But then again... who really knew what went on in that spiky head of his?
Before you could spiral deep into your thoughts, a loud gurgle from your stomach snapped you back in reality. Right. Food. That was a problem you actually could figure out, starting to make your way to the cafeteria.
It was also just in time for Izuku, Uraraka, and Iida to step out in perfect sync when you passed by your classroom door.
"Oh, [L/N]-chan!" Uraraka beamed, waving enthusiastically. "C'mon, let's go eat together!"
You smiled, nodding. "Sure."
As the four of you walked, you couldn't help but notice something. From the corner of your eye, Izuku kept sneaking glances at you—more than usual. He looked like he wanted to say something but couldn't bring himself to ask outright.
Meanwhile, your other two classmates were occupied in their own conversation, seemingly oblivious to the silent dilemma playing out behind them.
You turned slightly, unable to ignore his looks. You were about to ask if something was on his mind—until you abruptly remembered why he might be acting this way, suddenly averting your head the opposite way.
Riri had snitched on Izuku, exposed him, claiming he'd been harbouring long-term feelings for you.
Up until now, you weren't sure what to make of it. For all you knew, those sweet texts and thoughtful gestures didn't mean anything. It was just Izuku being Izuku. And besides, you two were friends. It's common sense for friends to care about one another. Especially knowing how he is, he's probably that way with Uraraka and Iida, right?
Seriously. That demon of a wizard is genuinely cunning and crazy. You made the mistake of trusting them once only to fall for their trick before, so there's no way you're just going to automatically believe Izuku's madly in love with you or something.
Unfortunately, thinking about it now was only making things worse. The more you forced yourself to physically stop the warmth spreading across your face, the more it does so.
And then—why the hell was Izuku blushing too?!
A girl's deluded thoughts are the driving force of her insanity.
On the other hand, Izuku was undergoing a complete crisis of his own.
His freckled face twitched as panic set in. She definitely saw me staring! He sucked in a quiet breath, his mind spinning wildly. She looked away—does that mean she thinks I'm creepy now?! Oh god, what if she's just pretending not to notice to spare me the embarrassment?! You're so stupid, Izuku! Stupid! She's never gonna talk to you again!
