PART I

LURKING IN THE SHADOWS

Nessira woke with a jump, her bed drenched in sweat. The entire night her sleep had been plagued by nightmares. She quickly stood up and walked outside. The cold wind chilled her to the bone. She heard Daylon wake in the cave. Nessira turned around to look at him.

"Would you care for a walk", she asked. Daylon whose eyes were still filled with sleep, yawned: "I guess so". Nessira felt her paranoia looming over her head, her muscles tense. Right now, she didn't care about the walk, all she wanted was to check her surroundings before going back to bed.

She paced toward the large, dense forest. Daylon was right behind her, his face nervous and his eyes flicking from side to side, he hated the dark. Nessira carefully walked around, trying hard not to make a noise.

This was like the game she used to play as a kid. Herself and her three older brothers would hide around in complete silence, then one was trying to seek out the rest, not with the eyes but with the ears. When she was little and they played, she used to be scared, feeling like something dangerous could attack her at any moment. It had been years since she felt that feeling, but now she felt it creeping in on her once again.

The sudden snap of a branch made her jump. She furiously turned to Daylon. Her blood froze when she noticed that there were no branches in sight. "Do not move", she hissed. Daylon stood completely still. "When I tell you to, run, run as fast as you can that way", she gestured back towards the way they came.

She clenched her fists and closed her eyes, listening. She made out voices, but she couldn't make out the exact words from the leaves rustling in the wind. Nessira heard the voices getting closer. Daylon looked at her. Light from torches filtered through the trees.

"Run. Now!", Nessira shouted. The two crashed through the undergrowth. They could hear the footsteps of many people running close to them.

"Halt", someone shouted behind them. Nessira and Daylon sprinted out to the open grasslands. The people had seemingly stopped following them. They turned around to look at the forest. Many different colors shined through the trees. A large group of around twenty ardoni, from different clans, stepped out from behind the trees, none of them Voltaris.

All of them had different weapons and five archers flanked the more close-up fighters. They lit arrows on fire with the other's torches. As the archers aimed their bows Nessira shouted at Daylon: "We must run to the village and warn the civilians". The two started running once again. "Fire!", a Kaltaris, who seemed to be the leader, commanded. Nessira looked around at the moor starting to burn.

PART II

THE END OF A JOURNEY

Thora and Gwen walked down the dark and gloomy halls. The path opened into a large room. Right in the center the large end portal hummed peacefully. Gwen felt the butterflies in her stomach fly around. Thora seemed weirdly quiet. Gwen held the egg protectively in her arms.

"We're finally here", she said happiness filling her voice, Thora just nodded. Gwen walked up the stairs and looked at the gaping portal. "I think it would be best if I take the egg while you go in", Thora said, and Gwen handed her the egg. "Thora I'm nervous", Gwen's excitement had turned to worry.

Thora had placed the egg very far down the stairs.

"Thora, what's going on?", Gwen nervously asked.
