Chapter 7: The Reckoning

“I can’t believe this is how it ends,” I said, my voice breaking. “My brother is dead because of this madness.” I looked around at the gathered crowd, searching for someone to blame.

One of the nobles stepped forward, a man clad in rich fabrics, his face twisted with a mix of horror and intrigue. “Your brother was a brave man,” he said. “But this is not over. There are still those who wish to see Enaish dead, and you, too, are now a target.”

“What do you mean?” I asked, my heart racing.

“They’ll come for you both,” the noble continued, his voice low and urgent. “You must leave this place immediately. You are not safe here.”

Enaish rose to his feet, his expression fierce. “Then we leave at once. Eva, we must go.”

“But Ezek…” I started, my voice faltering.

“We will honor his memory by surviving,” Enaish said firmly. “He wouldn’t want you to be caught in this.”

I took a deep breath, trying to compose myself. The reality of my situation pressed down on me, but I couldn’t let my brother’s sacrifice be in vain.
