Chapter 8: A New Beginning

With a heavy heart, I followed Enaish out of the grand hall and into the night. The castle felt both foreign and familiar, its walls echoing my pain as I tried to process everything that had happened.

As we rode away from the castle, I looked back one last time. “I’ll never forget you, Ezek,” I whispered, my heart aching.

Enaish glanced at me, his ruby like eyes reflecting the moonlight. “We’ll find a way to make this right. I promise.”

Days turned into weeks as we journeyed through forests and mountains, always on the lookout for those who sought to harm us. Enaish became my protector, guiding me through the dangers of this new world. Despite the circumstances, I found solace in his presence. He was kind and strong, and slowly, I began to see the man behind the prince.

“I never wanted to be a ruler,” he confessed one night as we camped under the stars. “I only wanted to be free.”

“Free?” I echoed, my mind racing. “What does that mean?”

“It means living without fear, without the shadows of my past looming over me,” he replied, his voice filled with a quiet intensity. “It means being with someone who understands me—someone like you.”

His words struck a chord in my heart, and I felt a warmth spreading through me. “Ezek always told me to find happiness,” I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper. “He believed I could find it, despite everything.”

“Then let’s find it together,” Enaish said, his gaze steady. “For him and for us.”
