Marlowe laid in the hospital bed looking feverish. Her family and the pack doctor all around her arguing about whether or not to give Marlowe the medicine Fletcher told them to. The Harper Pack had a small hospital. They believed most matters could be handled at home, but the family had never seen a heat like this and decided that the hospital was a necessity.
"What if it's poison?" Saul's voice boomed, talking about the vials that Fletcher handed to Aspen.
"He's her mate, you nut job! He'll endure a shit ton of pain and will DIE if she dies! Only a psycho would do that. And the fact that he had medicine for heat lets us know that he's smart or someone around him is." Esmeralda yelled back at him. "This is not the time to be bull headed and paranoid. THINK."
"He was telling the truth when I asked him what it was." Aspen added quietly. She looked at her dad hoping that would reassure him. She sat on the couch with her arms folded looking down. She doesn't want any of the anger in the room directed at her.
Jasper chimed in, "He seemed like a stand up guy. He didn't mark her. Homeboy didn't even get his rocks off the whole time Marlowe was grinding on him like a wild animal." He tried to cover up his amusement about his sister's new sex life.
A low growl came from Saul and Leena chuckled. Hearing their baby girl was grinding on some stranger certainly made them uncomfortable. Aspen and Jasper swore they saw their father gray more right before their eyes due to stress. Everyone in the room knew not to push him right now, except for Esme.
"Here. I will feel if there are any poisonous substances in it and we'll give it to her if there isn't." Esmeralda said, grabbing the vial from the doctor.
"Why didn't you say you could do that in the first place?!" Saul was fuming. Esme is his wife's best friend and the biggest pain in his side. He swears she does things just to get under his skin.
Esmeralda smiled sweetly, " you never asked." She closed her eyes and everyone watched in amazement as the vial and Esmeralda's hands glowed. 5 seconds later, the glowing stopped, and Esmeralda opened her eyes "All good." She smiled and handed the vial to the doctor.
"But-" Saul tried to stop the doctor. The paranoid old man feared that the pack was weakened without the white wolf, but he feared not seeing awake his daughter way more.
Leena hissed "Saul stop it, our baby is suffering!" She had enough of her husband's nonsense. And wanted to see her baby awake. Her only baby she birthed. The one that was gifted to her after a heroic night in the mountains. She would not lose that baby and she would bite off Saul's head if he delayed this any longer.
Sensing his wife's mood, Saul walked to the wall next to the couch his wife was sitting on and leaned against it. The pack doctor, Jerry, grabbed a syringe and inserted it into the vial. He extracted the medicine from the vial and then took a big pinch of Marlowe's skin on her arm. He slowly inserted the needle and everyone in the room held their breath as he gave her the medicine. Sensing the tension, the pack doctor quickly took the needle out and walked towards the door. He turned back around and looked at the family. "She will wake up, it's just a matter of when and if she'll still be in heat. I didn't even know this type of medicine existed. Forgive me for not knowing much." He walked out of the room as quickly as he could. Just in case his alpha was not satisfied with that answer.
When the doctor closed the door, everyone seemed to let out a breath. Leena put her hand on Aspen's shoulder. Firm, not forcefully, to ensure her adopted daughter knew she was not playing around, but she also didn't want her to think she was blaming her. "Okay, honey, start from the beginning. I want to know everything."
Aspen looked at Jasper. Leena looked back and forth at them and could sense her children were hiding something. "And I mean everything!" She warned. Leena chose the weaker twin. She knew Aspen would cough it all up under a little pressure and she was the only one there while Marlowe was conscious.
