"Hey.. Dad needs to talk to me, so I have to leave. Maxine will go with you to your monthly checkup while I'm gone." I explained softly, while she was chilling on the couch and I was kneeling in front of her.
Sadness was evident on her face at my words. But I really had to leave because it was important.
"Do you want me to come with you?" she asked, her hand gently resting on my cheek. But I shook my head, declining her offer.
"It's fine. Ako na lang," I said, and she immediately hugged me tightly around the neck, as if she didn't want to let go.
"I'm going to miss you again. Message me if something bad happens. Come home to me right away," she said, still hugging me. I just forced a smile when she finally faced me.
I stood up and left her in the living room, heading towards the exit where Maxine was waiting for me to leave.
"You take care of her. Give her whatever she wants to eat, as long as it's safe for her. Keep her away from stress," I reminded her. "I'll try to catch up with her checkup if I finish early," I said, and she nodded.
"Copy that, boss." I nodded back and left in my car.
I just hope they get along because what happened the other day really worried me. But in the end, they made up. Zahara just has that kind of personality with other people.
I parked my car outside our big house. As I got out, Kuya Fidel greeted me, and I immediately smiled back. Pinapasok niya na ako sa loob dahil kanina pa daw ako hinahanap ni Dad kung nakarating na ba ako.
As soon as I entered the large living room, a heavy fist met me, sending me crashing to the floor. I touched my lip, which was already cut, and saw a trickle of blood staining my white long-sleeved polo.
"You're a fucking moron! You never do anything right! You always embarrass this family. You're trash, a disgrace to this family, stupid!" he yelled at me while I was still lying on the floor.
As I stood up, I winced in pain from my lips and jaw. I looked at Dad's face, burning with anger, hindi mahanap ang sagot kung bakit galit na naman siya sa akin.
"What did I do this time that's right but wrong to you?" I asked defiantly, my brow furrowed.
Dad's anger flared up again, and he was about to charge at me, but this time Mom stopped him. She was just standing beside Dad, crying, unable to defend me.
"Stupid! I sent you to a good school, dressed you in nice clothes, fed you good food. But what did you do? You just bring shame to this family," he yelled at me, pointing his finger on my face. I could see that if Mom hadn't stopped him, he might have already been beating me up.
"Son, why did you do that?" Mom asked, crying and still trying to calm Dad down, who was now momentarily quiet. "Mr. Garcia withdrew the shares he gave our company because you allegedly beat up his son," Mom said, and I slowly began to understand why Dad was reacting this way.
"If I hadn't done that, would I just let that fucker say whatever he wanted about Zahara? I was just protecting my wife, Dad. What the fuck is wrong with that?" May bahagya kong taas ng boses.
"Don't disrespect this family, don't disrespect me, you moron! You should have thought! I thought you were smart? Why didn't you use this? Where is this now? Did your brain rust already, huh?!" He yelled at me again, pointing at his head, clearly wanting to beat me up.
