I pat myself down to make sure everything is where it should be. I have my gun, taser, handcuffs, and own personal items I usually carry around. Today is the day I start my surveillance mission. Earlier in the morning, the deputy informed me that the leader of the Vincetti gang was at the barber. I enter my personal car since I don't want him finding out that police was near.
Once I reach the address of the barber shop, I head inside. I decided to get my hair cut as well. I could've stayed outside, but I needed to hear whoever he calls and what he says. I had to be informed about what he talked about, even if it was the barber. I glance in the mirror once I enter and run my fingers through my dark blonde hair. It was wavy so it often looked messy even after brushing it out. It reached the top of my neck but wasn't too long from the sides.
A barber approaches me, asking me what cut I'd like.
"Hmm, how about an undercut?" I answer. I quickly glance around the shop to find a man who matched the photo. Finally, my eyes land on a young man. He matched the description and his side profile was the same. He had straight black hair which was now wet due to the barber spraying it. He wasn't wearing the same clothes, but a similar attire: sweats paired with a short-sleeve shirt. I take a seat in the chair behind him, just so I could watch if he leaves through the mirror.
My hair wasn't too long or out of shape, so it wouldn't take too long. The barber wets my hair and thankfully, the man's barber was just one step ahead of mine. I try to listen to what he was saying to the barber since it looked like they were holding a conversation, but the barber assigned to me was far more talkative.
"This would really suit your face shape!" He exclaims as he starts snipping away at some hair. I nod and mutter a 'thanks', then continue at my attempt to listen to the other man's conversation.
"Because you have cool undertones, if you ever think about dyeing your hair, you should go with a silver platinum or cool blue colour," my barber starts to say. "Actually, with a handsome face like yours, any colour would look good." I hold back from telling the man to be quiet. As he continued to yap, I look in the mirror to look at his lips.
I wasn't the best at reading lips but it wasn't that hard. The barber snips away at my dark blonde hair. While I stare at the man through the mirror, I could make out a few words; 'hotel', 'garbage', 'sex', 'motherfucker', 'tomatoes', 'free', and lastly, 'chocolate'.
None of the words seemed linked to one another which gave me no lead. Suddenly, his eyes turn and look at me through the mirror. Fuck, this is the last thing I wanted: For him to see me.
I divert my gaze to look at myself in the mirror. The deputy did tell me to run away after being spotted, but the man doesn't know I'm an undercover cop. I'm just another guy at the barber... who got caught staring at him through the mirror. I glance at his lips once more when I hear him and his barber get into a conversation again.
By this point, I had totally blocked out what my barber was saying. Once I look at the man once more, a shiver runs down my spine. He wasn't only looking right back, but he was smirking right at me. I look away once more and try to think about why he looks so familiar. He had a face people usually wouldn't forget, but I couldn't remember where I'd seen him before.
As my barber styles my hair, I check it out in the mirror. I pay using card and with one last glance at the man, I head out. Now I had to wait for his barber to finish. As I sit inside my car and stare at the barber shop door, I start to wonder. He doesn't look like a gang leader at all. Sure he's big and looks scary when he's staring right at you, but he had no bruises, scars, or any sign of a hit taken. Even his knuckles and hands were large yet soft-looking, as if he's never punched somebody in his life.
