Still Adriel POV
I turn my head slightly to look at him, "You're going back to work?" I ask, hoping he didn't hear my conversation on the phone.
"No, I forgot something important."
I glance at him, what could he have possibly forgotten? An important file? His gun?
I turn right to head towards the police station and he was much more talkative than usual. "When did you join the gang?" I sense him looking at me. "When I was 15."
He jolts forward in his seat, surprised. "So you were already in a gang when we met?" I nod with a slight smile. I've always found his surprised expression really cute. The way his eyes would widen and plump lips would part. I wanted to change the topic. Ever since we met again, all we ever talked about was gangs, Terra, and topics related to that.
"Wanna get dinner?" I ask, slowing down the car to see if he changes his mind. "Sure, you pick."
---
We seat ourselves in the corner seat in a diner of my choice and a waiter places a menu on our table. Monte quickly grabs it and scans through the list.
"What do you usually get?" He asks, probably not knowing what to buy. He sat across from me, so I lean over the table and point at a few items, "The chicken-fried steak with gravy and the..." I pause as I try to find scan the page for the drink. I tilt my head, unable to read upside-down.
"Lychee Cosmopolitan?" He asks, pointing at it.
"No..." I was beginning to think they removed it. "Oh wait, yeah." The waiter returns now that we were ready and I give him the order. Monte stares outside the window and at the bustling traffic. He suddenly turns his head towards me and looks right at me.
What he said next caught me way off guard.
"Can we get the vodka?"
He wanted to get drunk? He looks very composed and serious now that we were grown up, so I wonder how he'd look when drunk.
"Sure," I reply.
---
I watch as Monte drops his head onto the table, clearly very drunk. He drank a few bottles and probably didn't know what he was doing right now. I was still sitting across from him and I told him many, many times before not to have more, but he'd get angry at me and continue to drink.
I still had no clue what kind of drunk he was. He was surprisingly quiet, only muttering a word every now and then. I couldn't tell what he was muttering because of how quiet he was.
A few minutes before dropping his head down, he had raised his leg and set it between mine. Every now and then, he'd press against me with shoes.
I stand up and walk over to Monte, raising him up from beneath his arms. He stayed hunched over. I turn around and place him on my back. I wrap his arms around my neck, not wanting him to fall and grab his leg and wrap them around my waist. I leave some cash on the table and then move my hands higher to his thighs.
He moves his face into my neck and I feel his slow breath on me. I turn my head slightly to look at his face and his eyes were shut. With a sigh, we exit the restaurant and I seat him into the passenger seat of the car.
We drive towards his home and I feel his pocket for the keys. I grab them from his front pocket and I take a second to look at his face which now looked peaceful compared to before.
His cheeks were bright pink and lips a dark shade of red. I only now realized how long and thick his eyelashes are. With a sigh, I get out of the car and carry him on my back once again. After unlocking the front door, I try to recall which way the stairs were.
