"Well, now that that's been decided, go back to your rooms and go to bed." Namjoon ordered, turning to his students. "I remind you that you have class tomorrow."
It didn't happen very often, but everyone sighed with relief at the idea of being confined to their rooms. Taehyung was in no hurry to go back to school tomorrow, but if that was the condition for being able to lie in bed, then he'd go with pleasure. This mission had completely exhausted him, and all he wanted to do now was sleep.
Everyone started to leave the room, with Taehyung beginning to stretch as he waited for his turn to leave. Meanwhile, Professor Xavier approached Jungkook, who was consequently forced to look away from the teenager.
"Come with me, Mr Jeon. I'll show you to your room."
"Professor, why doesn't Taehyung do it?" Kitty suddenly intervened." After all, there are several rooms available on his floor!"
Taehyung turned round immediately, hi eyes wide with surprise and incomprehension. The girl gave him a discreet thumbs-up, accompanied by a smile that showed she was proud of herself. As for Taehyung, he couldn't hide his feeling of betrayal. After the discussion the young girl had had with Professor Xavier after their training a week ago, their relationship had clearly improved. You could even say they'd become friends.
Or so Taehyung thought. But for betraying him like that, she must not have felt the same way (Taehyung always tended to be a bit overdramatic).
"That's a wonderful idea, Kitty!" reacted the teacher enthusiastically. "It'll make it easier for our guest to integrate. Is that okay with you, Taehyung?"
Taehyung felt Jungkook's burning gaze on him, which just made him want to bury himself in a hole. No one, certainly not a man, had ever looked at him with such intensity. Honestly, he wasn't used to it. He didn't know what was behind that look: interest, judgement, mockery? He had no idea, and that was what was most unsettling. He didn't like feeling at someone's mercy, he felt like he was going back to being the weak and scared teenager he was a year ago.
He really wanted to say what he really felt, but the teacher's enthusiastic and benevolent air dissuaded him. He didn't want to disappoint him, not after everything he'd done for him. And then what, it was just giving him a room. It wasn't a big deal! After that, he could ignore him as much as he liked after that!
"Y-Yes, of course, Professor." Taehyung replied with a smile. "I'll show him, don't worry."
"Thank you very much, Taehyung..."
The young man looked at Jungkook who was obviously already watching him. Taehyung simply nodded, encouraging him to follow. With a small smile on his lips, Jungkook complied without saying a word. However, the teenager didn't fail to send Kitty an accusatory glance as he walked past her.
"I'll get revenge." he said simply.
The girl smiled at him.
"You bet, you'll thank me soon."
Taehyung didn't believe so, but refrained from telling her. He simply passed her by, leaving the meeting room without really making sure that Jungkook followed him. But he knew he was there. He could hear his footsteps behind him, although they were very discreet, so furtive that Taehyung even wondered if the man wasn't making the little noise he did make on purpose, to assure him of his presence. It was really strange. All the more reason to be wary of him.
It wasn't until they reached the elevator that the two men finally found themselves side by side, although Taehyung kept a good distance between them. He did this with everyone, it had become instinctive. And as the doors closed, the teenager felt the tension rising. A tension that he was certainly the only one to maintain. And that same tension crackled when the man next to him began to laugh softly, the sound like a gentle melody in his ears.
