Her vision clouded by the red hue of her own blood, spattering the ground from her own open wounds. Even so, she must persist. Wiping the blood that dribbled past her lips, leaving a stain of red on her pale skin, she felt her body straining from the power she used to keep it under containment. Each time it was on the verge of awakening, it took longer for her to lull it into slumber.
"My Lady..." she knew she couldn't avoid it, from the voice of trepidation of her handmaid towards the physical effects on her own body. The signs were slowly yet surely showing, she was lucky that he hadn't realized yet. The proof was that instead of the usual gold ginkgo[1] leaves, there were the pink petals of cherry blossoms that drifted into the ground before dissipating.
Staring at it for a moment before turning towards the other, taking the pill that rests on her delicate hands and swallowing it. Bringing her palm up to her sight, she could clearly see the stem of roots glowed then receding back under her skin. Its physical effects were instantaneous, the signs faded like it had never existed. Yet she knew better than anyone else that her body was consuming itself.
Even then she forced a smile on her face, though the other could clearly see the strain on it. Her index finger pointing up, signaling the silent gesture as she spoke,"Lan-er... you must promise me.. do not ever tell him about this okay? He must never know of my condition... no matter what."
All the other woman could do was nodded silently with sad wet eyes, traitorous tears dripped down her face that was hidden behind her sleeves, her head dipped in her bowed form. They both knew what would happen if the lord knew, he would have done anything to save her... at the cost of everything... and that was something they both knew all too well.
Even so, it didn't stop the pain of watching them interact, knowing that their sweet gestures would be remembered with pain. It didn't stop the tears from falling as her lord cradling her mistress's frail body in desperation, so different from the stoic and cold man she and the rest of the people knew. The rage and pain that screamed from his very being would be what brought upon the end of their homeland just as their homeland brought the end of his beloved.
