Exhaustion felt like an appropriate label for my current state of being. However, I wasn't referring to my physical condition. No, thanks to Emilia's remarkable healing abilities, my body was fully restored. I felt confident I could sprint through the Capitol without breaking a sweat. Yet, my mental state was a different story altogether—one that weighed heavily on me.
It had only been about thirty minutes since we left the slums, and now we were en route to Emilia's home. During this brief journey, not much had transpired. Emilia, seated next to me, leaned back against the plush upholstery of our carriage, her brow slightly furrowed in an effort to find relaxation. I could tell she was feeling the effects of her last healing session, particularly after the effort she had exerted to help Rom. The mental toll must have been significant, even if her mana reserves still seemed intact.
As for me, I slouched comfortably in my seat, eyes fixed on the scenery rushing by outside. The carriage, surprisingly plush—far from the rough transport typically used for trading goods—invited ease. I was grateful to Reinhard for ensuring we traveled in such comfort. The air here was remarkably crisp and clear, devoid of the stench of decay that often filled the slum. 'Of course, that's to be expected without the blight of human waste,' I mused.
With a sense of idleness creeping in, I reached into my pocket to retrieve my phone, but a sudden realization struck me: I had left it in the gym locker room. I was still donned in my Keigoki, the traditional kendo uniform, when I was summoned here, and I hadn't thought to take it with me. Just as I began to dwell on my absent phone, I noticed a medium-sized pocket sewn into the interior of my cape.
Curiously, I rummaged through it, my fingers brushing against something solid. To my surprise, I found a handful of gold coins, their smooth surfaces gleaming in the dim light of the carriage. Nestled alongside the coins were a pair of short swords and two books. My gaze instantly fixated on the short swords, recognition flooding my mind as I examined them closely. They were uniquely crafted and held a significance that stirred a mix of nostalgia and curiosity within me.
I stood there, staring at the short swords resting before me, each one a testament to their master, Archer. A wave of confusion washed over me as I wondered why I possessed them. Excalibur made sense—I had acquired Saber's entire kit or so it seems so far. But these swords? What purpose did they serve in my hands? I pondered over this perplexity for a while before setting them aside and reaching for the books instead.
The first thing that caught my attention was the language—both books were inscribed in Dutch, a small blessing considering my struggle with the Lugunica dialect. I picked up the first book titled "The Traveler's Guide to Lugunica." Flipping through the pages, I quickly scanned the content and confirmed my initial impression: it contained essential information about the Dragon Kingdom. I found details on its vast domains, estimated populations, notable tourist spots, and cultural insights. Satisfied yet intrigued, I closed the book, resolving to delve deeper into its contents during a more leisurely moment.
