At MODU University, the lecture hall buzzed with excitement. The new chemistry lecturer, Kim Yooyeon, was the talk of the campus. At 26, she was the youngest lecturer, with a captivating beauty and undeniable charisma. Everyone admired her. But there was one exception: Yoon Seoyeon, who sat at the back of the class, scowling every time Yooyeon walked in. Seoyeon is a last year student in that university and 3 years younger than Yooyeon.
Nien, Seoyeon's best friend, glanced over at her in confusion. "Why do you always look like you're about to murder someone whenever Ms. Kim enters?" she whispered.
Seoyeon gritted her teeth, eyes locked on Yooyeon as she introduced today's lesson. "I just don't like her."
"Why? She's practically perfect! I mean, look at her—"
"I know," Seoyeon interrupted, her voice sharp. She didn't need to be reminded. The truth was, she knew Yooyeon all too well. They had been together since high school and were secretly engaged for almost a year. But no one, not even Nien, knew. And Seoyeon planned to keep it that way.
The worst part? Yooyeon had transferred to MODU without warning, suddenly replacing Seoyeon's old chemistry lecturer. It had been a shock to find her fiancé standing at the front of her classroom one day, pretending like everything was normal. As if she hadn't completely upended Seoyeon's peaceful life.
Seoyeon glared at Yooyeon from her seat, wishing she could vanish into thin air. Every time Yooyeon made eye contact with her, Seoyeon looked away, crossing her arms defensively. She hated the attention Yooyeon got from everyone—especially the way guys and girls alike flirted with her, as if she was some kind of unattainable goddess.
Nien nudged her. "You're seriously acting weird, Seoyeon. Everyone loves her, and here you are acting like she ran over your cat."
"Can we not talk about it?" Seoyeon snapped, focusing on the notes in front of her, though her mind was miles away.
After class ended, Seoyeon stormed out before anyone could stop her, but she didn't get far. Yooyeon caught up with her, grabbing her wrist gently. "Seoyeon, wait."
Seoyeon spun around, her eyes blazing. "What do you want?"
Yooyeon sighed, glancing around to make sure no one was listening. "We need to talk."
"About what? How you're ruining my life?"
Yooyeon frowned, tugging her toward a nearby quiet corridor. "You're being dramatic."
"Am I?" Seoyeon hissed. "You transferred to my university without even telling me! Do you know how awkward it is to have my fiancé as my chemistry lecturer?"
Yooyeon's eyes softened. "I didn't plan this, Seoyeon. The transfer was sudden, and I didn't have time to warn you."
Seoyeon pulled her hand away. "You should've tried harder."
Yooyeon's face fell, but she remained calm. "I'm sorry. I thought we could handle this."
"Well, I can't," Seoyeon spat, storming off before Yooyeon could say another word.
Later that day, Seoyeon was sitting in the library, her thoughts still a mess, when her phone buzzed. It was a message from Yooyeon.
Yooyeon🩷: Meet me in my office. We need to talk. Please.
Seoyeon rolled her eyes but stood up anyway. She had been avoiding this conversation for too long. Maybe it was time to finally confront Yooyeon and figure out what they were going to do about their mess of a situation.
