Kim Yooyeon was known around the office as the cold, efficient CEO who always got things done. At 28, she was at the helm of one of the largest tech companies in the country. Her striking beauty was only matched by her sharp intellect, and her employees respected her—but they also feared her. No one dared to approach her unless it was strictly business.
No one, that is, except for Yoon Seoyeon.
Seoyeon, her secretary, had been working with Yooyeon for almost two years now. At 25, she was lively, cheerful, and seemingly unaffected by the CEO's frosty demeanor. She handled Yooyeon's impossible schedules with ease, and somehow, her bubbly personality had earned Yooyeon's quiet approval.
Yooyeon sat behind her desk, her eyes glued to the reports in front of her. The air in the office was always cool, quiet, with the sharp hum of the city beyond the windows. The only sound was the ticking of the clock as the day crawled toward evening.
Seoyeon knocked lightly on the door before entering with her usual energy. She balanced a tray with Yooyeon's lunch in one hand and a folder full of documents in the other.
"Here's the meeting agenda for tomorrow, Ms. Kim, and your lunch—grilled chicken salad, as you requested." Seoyeon's voice was cheery as always, even as she placed the papers and the tray down on the desk.
Yooyeon didn't lift her gaze from the reports. "Thank you, Seoyeon. You can leave it there."
Seoyeon chuckled softly, placing her hands on her hips. "You know, you should really take a proper break once in a while. Just for 20 minutes or so."
"Noted," Yooyeon replied, still not looking up. Her eyes flickered toward her computer, reviewing emails.
Seoyeon bit her lip, rolling her eyes playfully as she walked around the desk, grabbing a chair to sit opposite Yooyeon. "Nope, I'm going to sit here and make sure you eat."
Yooyeon's gaze finally shifted, her piercing eyes locking onto Seoyeon's as if to challenge her. "Seoyeon, I don't need you to babysit me."
"Oh, it's not babysitting. It's called being a responsible secretary." Seoyeon grinned. "You're the CEO, sure, but even CEOs need to take care of themselves."
A long pause hung in the air as Yooyeon studied her, and for a brief second, Seoyeon thought she might have overstepped her bounds. But to her surprise, Yooyeon sighed quietly and put the papers aside. Without a word, she reached for the salad and began eating.
Seoyeon beamed in victory. "See? That wasn't so hard."
"I'll have to deduct the time you're spending as a 'responsible secretary' from your break," Yooyeon muttered between bites.
Seoyeon laughed. "Fair trade."
Later that evening, the office was deserted. The only light came from Yooyeon's desk lamp, casting long shadows across the room. The soft glow of the city skyline peeked through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Yooyeon worked quietly, reviewing contracts and financial reports, her focus unshakable.
The door to her office creaked open, and Seoyeon peeked in. "You're still here?" she asked softly, stepping inside.
Yooyeon didn't look up but acknowledged her presence with a simple nod. "I have a lot of work left to finish."
Seoyeon glanced at the clock on the wall. It was already past 9 p.m. She frowned slightly before walking over to Yooyeon's desk. "It's late, Ms. Kim. You shouldn't be here alone."
Yooyeon paused, her fingers halting on the keyboard. "I'm used to it. You don't need to stay."
"I'm not leaving you here by yourself," Seoyeon said firmly, taking a seat on the couch near the window. "I'll stay until you're done."
