Chapter 14
"Tears Of Happiness..."

They toss me into a cold cage surrounded by hard cold bars with a cold hard floor. They slammed the cage door shut and locked it.

"No!" I cry gripping the bars of the cage door, gritting my teeth, my eyes filling with tears. The scientists look over their shoulders to see my pleading look "Let me go! I need to find Adrian!" but they turn away and left. My eyes widen with shock and horror, I close them and scream at the scientists

"Please! You have to let me go!" the tears fall from my eyes which open to see the smallest scientist looked back to me "I need to find Adrian! Pleaseee!" but she turned away and closed the door. My eyes widen in shock and dread. Tears run from my eyes "No..." I whisper "Adrian!" I scream for his name, hoping it would lead him to me... but knew it wouldn't... I looked around the dark empty room. The only thing in the dark room was the cold hard cage which contained the monstrous fire freak. I wrap my arms around my torso and tuck in my legs, curling up into myself and cried silently in the darkness.

"Adrian..."

I moan and sit up, rubbing my head. I'd manage to turn myself over while I was sleeping. I sighed and looked around.

"Kara!" a voice calls and snaps my attention to him... Adrian! He hurries to my side "you're awake!" I blink, completely and utterly confused "You were tossing and turning in your sleep... and... pleading..." I could see the pain in his eyes as he takes my hands in his and he kneels by my side.

"I'm alright" I smile answering the burning question in his eyes, but he lightly frowns as if asking 'really?' "Really, I'm fine... just... might have been a nightmare, but I'm fine now... it wasn't real" but no matter how many times I say that, I know it's not true... I can't deny it... it was a memory... my dreams are memories and visions.

"Are you hungry?" he says suddenly "Warner came in not too long ago to see if you were awake for lunch. I can get something for you, you haven't eaten for a while and..." he looked away... does he know? Did Jenny tell him? "We're worried about you... Jenny and Luck and Luke... and Jacob especially..." he still doesn't look at me

"What about you?" I say and he snaps his eyes back to mine wide with surprise and shock, but my expression is still blank.

"Of course!" he cries "What would make you think I wasn't?" he asked with a confused frown. I look to my lap

"You just didn't... include yourself..." I look up to him, into his beautiful eyes and smile lightly, he relaxes his tense shoulders

"So, are you hungry? I can have something brought up for you" he stood, his hands slipping from mine as he walked to the door, looking over his shoulder he asked "Pumpkin soup?" raising his eye brows. I smile and nod, he smiled back, swipes his card and leaves. I sigh before slipping from beneath the quilts and into the bathroom.

The hot water of the shower pours over my skin, Adrian will be back soon... I gotta be quick... I close my eyes and run my hands through my hair.

"You got the sedative?" a male voice said on the other side of the door.

"Yeah but... do we really have to... use it?" a female voice said.

"If we have to, she's very dangerous. It's for her and our own good. We don't want her to hurt herself or us." The door opened, light filtered in from the open door before the lights flicker on...

I hear the faint beep and click of the bedroom door opening and Adrian's split second panic, before he realized I'm in the shower. I turn off the taps and slowly drag my hands over my face then wring my hair, before stepping out onto the bathroom mat. I heat my skin, wrap up my hair then tightly wrap a towel around me covering most of my body except my legs from half way up my thighs. I cling to the towel hoping it won't fall as I slip from the bathroom, trying to ignore Adrian, like I didn't even know he'd come in. I open the closet and snatch a little strapless white dress, strapless bra, underwear and go to grab a pair of shoes but ditch the idea (High heels don't really work with carpet!) I close the cupboard and turn to see Adrian shifting nervously with his back to me; I shake my head with a small smile and hurry back to the bathroom to change.
