IT'S HAPPENING!

. . .

If there is one thing you need to know about Peter Ballard, he looks like an adorable puppy when he sleeps.

Somehow his features look smaller. His eyes seem to be at peace when shut as if he finds home in the darkness. Strands of his neat hair fall onto his handsome face, slightly brushing his pursed lips. As his body heaves slightly from breathing, it reminds Jade of an angel. A fallen angel.

But what Jade loves the most about Peter in a state of slumber is the messy, imperfect bits. Since her very first day here, Jade had noticed how perfect the man was. With the way he kept himself groomed, Jade had never spotted dirt on his beamingly white attire. He always kept his shoes polished, always had his hair flawlessly framing his face, and worst of all— he was annoyingly composed and graceful, never faltering a step, never dropping things clumsily, never dropping that facade of his.

But a sleeping Peter was free of all the worries. A sleeping Peter was human— a flawed one. A sleeping Peter had messy hair that frizzled up around his face. A sleeping Peter scrunched his nose a little when he snored. A sleeping Peter even salivated a little. Had it been any other man, Jade would have been repulsed.

When his eyes flicker, Jade tilts her head, observing every movement he makes. A welcoming smile fills her countenance as he wakes up.

"Were you watching me sleep?" He asks groggily, rubbing his eyes. Adorable puppy.

"Yeah. Did you know you snore when you sleep?"

"Huh?" he says, bewildered, and slightly embarrassed.

"Yeah. And you also . . . " Jade leaves her seat to approach him, as he sits up on the bed. And in a swift strike, she licks the corner of his lips, "salivate a little."

The flush on his face makes it all worth it.

"Jade . . . "

"I know. I'm sorry. We shouldn't be doing this." She backs away, slightly upset.

"Oh. Why?"

"You made me a cake out of mashed potatoes and lit a candle, and this is what Brenner did to you. Do you seriously think we should—"

"I thought you weren't scared of him."

"I'm not. I just don't want you to get hurt over something so stupid."

"Stupid?" He asks, his voice barely above a whisper. He was hurt.

"Sorry, I didn't mean it that way. It wasn't stupid, but it's not half as important as you being okay."

He only nods, seemingly unconvinced.

"Hey, I mean it. I have no regrets, and under normal circumstances, I would've violated your honour multiple times by now." Jade winks at him, making him smile a little.

"Do it." He exhales.

"Peter—"

"Please."

"I— We can't. If anyone finds out—"

"Nobody will find out."

"How can you be so sure?"

"We'll be careful. Please."

"Peter, you're injured."

"Doesn't matter. Doesn't hurt."

"Of course it matters. And I know it hurts, do not lie to me." She says, looking at him with a fixed stare. She is serious.
