I'd just like to point out that I won't consistently call Peter by one name. Sometimes it'll be Peter, sometimes it'll be Henry. Because, obviously, our man is going through major identity crisis.

(After writing this chapter I'm convinced that I'm far better at fluff and angst, sorry if the smut is disappointing 😭)

. . .

"Everette, we need you in the Rainbow Room, now! A kid's hurt. It looks bad—" were the words that snapped her out of her chain of thoughts. Jade had bolted to the rainbow room with her equipment, a voice inside her telling her that the kid was Eleven. Every step she'd taken toward the room, she'd hoped she was wrong. She didn't know why or how it had happened, but she'd ended up getting attached to that girl. Perhaps it was because of how kind she was. Perhaps it was because of how brave she was. Or perhaps, it was because of Peter.

Peter. The bastard who had left like a coward right after he'd begged her to fuck him. The bastard who still hadn't shown her his face. It had been a week. A fucking week. Spineless piece of shit. She'd thought he was different. But he was a man, wasn't he? They're all—

NOT NOW, JADE! She reminded herself as she jolted through the doors, still wishing it wasn't Eleven. But when she had seen Peter crouched down, holding hands with the kid lying on the floor, she knew. She knew it was Eleven. And boy, had her heart sunk for him. She didn't want to feel bad, not for Peter anyway. But if she'd been able to keep control of her feelings, she wouldn't have fucked Peter.

Fuck that. She wouldn't even be here in the first place.

She'd crouched down beside him, taking a look at a knocked-out Eleven. Her forehead had turned into a deep shade of crimson and blue, with an evident swelling in the centre. "Slammed into a wall," he'd whispered to her, his voice breaking a little. And in that moment, as much as she'd wanted to punch Peter in the face for having the audacity to talk to her, her heart had given in. So she'd squeezed his hand, hinting to him that it was going to be okay. That she was going to make sure it would be okay.

And she had stuck to her word, too. It had taken Eleven a while to recover. She'd suffered a concussion, which had made it difficult for her to recall things at first. She'd even faced trouble with her eyesight, but Jade had tended to her day and night, just like Peter would've if he'd had permission to.

The angry part of her hated that she was doing all this for Peter's sake. But the more reasonable part of her said that morality outweighed sexual grudges, so she'd carried on until Eleven had been able to walk and talk again.

However, that had definitely not been a free pass for Peter to get away with the dick move he had pulled.

"What?" She says, not bothering to look up.

"Um, you sound . . . angry?" He says, his voice evidently timid.

"Of course, I sound angry." She scoffs. "Because I am angry, you fucking wimp!"

"Oh." Had she gone too far? "I, uhm, I just wanted to thank you. You know, for El."

"I did it because it was my job. Not for you." Wow, what a pathetic liar. "So, just leave, okay?"

And he leaves, without even flinching. Without even trying to apologise.

Well, he can go fuck himself. Quite literally.

. . .

"All fine, Eleven. You can go eat now. And remember to come back tomorrow, okay?" Jade pats her, sending a comforting smile her way. She props onto her chair as El scurries across the room and stands in front of Peter. Stupid charming ever-so-smiling Peter. Perfect fucking Peter. But when he nods towards the door, guiding Eleven outside instead of leaving with her, Jade frowns.
