I'm really worried for her, she's not the person who suddently cancels appointments or doesn't answer to phone messages, expecially if she has something to say.

When we met, she was always on time, always there for you when you needed her the most.
Only one time she came a little late. It was a school day.
I wasn't used to it, so i panicked, just like i'm doing now.

Around 10 minutes later, she finally got in the classroom, and sat next to me, like always.

"Willow, why are you so late? It's unusual of you."

"Scarlet, you will not believe what happened on the way here."

"What? Tell me!"

"I was walking on the street, and suddently this group of boys comes running from a corner, bumping into me! They made all of my books fall, but nobody stopped to help me, except this one boy.
He offered to bring my books here, so obviously i accepted and we walked the rest of the path togheter, talking!"

"What?! What did he told you?"

"He basically asked for forgiveness, but then he showed a lot of interest about where i was going."

"That's so cute! What was his name"

"Mason, his name was mason."

Exactly, that's how the two met. Since that day, she always walked her way to school with him, and soon, they got engaged.
I was a little jealous, i admit it, but seeing my best friend happy was very important to me.

She soon started to bring him everywhere, from when we met after school to when we went to the mall.
The next few years basically passed in this way, so i soon get used to him being always close to her. They loved eachother.

All of this until 2010.
High school was over, and we both were super excited to leave for college.
We agreed on choosing the same one, since our interests were the same.

Everything went perfectly the first month.
We ended up in the same dorm room, as roommates.
Classes began soon and everything was so interesting.

But one night, while everyone was sleeping, I heard some noises coming from the window, in our room.
It was Willow, she was going out. I probably didn't care of it at the time so, i went back to sleep.
After what seemed like 1 or 2 hours, Willow shook me awake.

"Scarlet!" she said whispering "Scarlet! You need to wake up! You can't believe what just happened!"

"What do you need willow... it's 3 am, why are you making so much mess?

"He proposed Scarlet! Mason wants to marry me!"

I think i'll remember that moment forever. Those words felt like a ice shower.

"Proposed? What do you mean??"

"He told me he wanted to see me, so i went out and at some point he got on one knee and pulled out the ring! Here, here it is, you see it? It's diamond!"

If i could see it? That diamond riflected the moonlight and was shining right in front of my face.

Then eventually they got married, but since she was so young, she couldn't keep up with the school anymore, so she left.
That was one of the things that hurted me the most but, hey, at least she was still my best friend after all!

3 years later i gratuated and at the same time, they bought their house in Austin, Texas, where we all lived back in the days.

And that's where i'm going.

The sunlight is blinding me, so i lower the sun visor to clearly see the road.
The roads is empty, it's Thanksgiving day.

I'm too worried about Willow to organize any sort of party, and so is he, alone in their 2 floors house just a few blocks from mine.

I ring the doorbell, but it took him a good 2 minutes to come and open the door for me.

"Oh, it's you, Scarlett, come in."
His voice sounds calm, maybe too much.

"Mason... where the hell is Willow? She has not answered the phone in over 2 days."

"You can sit here and i'll make you some coffee ok? No celebrations today?"

"No, Marcus, i'm worried about my bestfriend and i can't celebrate with her in my mind."

"That's right, same for me"

"Do you know where she could be?"

After hearing that, Marcus accidentaly drops the coffee cup on the floor, shattering it into a million pieces.

"Shit"

As i reassure him that everything is fine and get him sit on the chair, i continue:

"What happened Saturday night?"

"We had a big fight, she was so angry and said all this nonsense about our relationship.
Then she took her purse and got out, i don't know where she went and she's not answering any of my text too."

That was a good made up story, but i know that what she said wasn't all that nonsense.

"Ok, that makes sense. No trace of where she went, maybe she said something?"

"She told me that it's over, she trew the wedding ring at me and got out. She would prattle about some out of mind things she thinks i did.
In that moment it looked like she never loved me. I loved her Scarlet, i really did!"

Did? What's up with the past tense? Something is going on, but i reassure him.

"Don't worry Mason, we're going to find her. Maybe we should start thinking about where she could have gone..."

I stop myself mid sentence. The carpet they had under the table caught my attention because half of it is drenched in water.

"What happened there?" I point to where the carpet is.

"It's just the dog, he still can't fricking pee outside the house, so he does it inside..."

That's strange, Willow once told me their dog has finally got used to pee in their yard.

"Oh, that sucks, i was sayi-"

"It's getting late, Scarlet, i wouldn't want you to miss your Thanksgiving day."

He says, as he walk me out of the door.

"Thanks, but- i'm here for Willow! Mason you can't do this!"

"Bye!"
He slams the door.

Knock-knock, knock-knock.
He won't open the damn door. I go back to my car and starts driving back home.

But a lot of things about that conversation are haunting me.

The calm with which he said everything, the use of the past, the carpet and his swearing...

When Willow called me back that night... i heard cursing...and if my mind doesn't trick me, that sounded just like Mason, when the coffee cup fell on fhe floor.

He has something to do with it, but basic coincidences won't help me find out anything.
