One thing that isn't clear in Scarlett's mind is the issue surrounding all the inheritance papers Mason was working on. Maybe Mason knew that she was suspecting something and wanted to keep all the money if they got divorced? Or perhaps he intended for all of the money to go to Brooke, his new girlfriend?

She opened that book every time she could, trying to find more proof against him. At that moment in her life, Scarlett was solely focused on understanding what had happened to her best friend. But nobody around her seemed to believe her.

"The officer has made things clear, Scarlett; you need to trust them."

Or

"Scarlett, if she told you that, as you say, then it's plausible that she wanted you to know she was trying to get away from him. And, like the police said, she left of her own volition!"

She felt alone, and it's known that humans need other humans around them to navigate through life. Especially in that harsh moment, with her best friend missing—who had always been on Scarlett's side—she desperately needed someone to fill the void left by Willow's absence.

But thankfully, there was one person who believed her, and that was Agatha, Willow's sister. Agatha was always there for her. She was on her side while spying on Mason, and she stood by her as they read through the diary. The two of them had gathered a significant amount of evidence against him, and the police had to take them seriously.

So, on a cold day in January, the two met up in front of the police station, ready to get that man arrested. They entered the building, and a few workers directed them to wait in the lobby. Soon, they were called into a room with a police officer.

"Hello, ladies. You've come here to talk about Willow's disappearance. What do you have to show me?"

Scarlett pulled out her laptop, filled with photos and audio recordings that she had meticulously gathered over the past few weeks.

Before they could go through all the evidence, a man was called into the room. He was a rather short man, wearing eyeglasses and sporting well-maintained hair.

"So, since we're accusing a person in his absence, a witness must be present, so we called his lawyer," the officer explained.

"That's fine," Scarlett said, though she felt a knot tighten in her stomach.

But soon, the two discovered that it was not fine at all. The lawyer quickly dismantled nearly all of their accusations, citing the lack of solid evidence and the questionable methods by which it had been obtained, since Mason had essentially been stalked. The situation felt increasingly grim; it would be best for them to stop there, or they risked being charged themselves.

This wasn't the first time they had faced such obstacles. Nothing seemed to be going the right way to solve the case and charge Mason with murder. Scarlett's heart shattered once again, leaving her feeling hopeless and defeated.

Yet, deep down, she felt a flicker of revenge igniting within her. She would not let Mason get away with this, not when Willow's life had been so brutally cut short.
