CONTENT WARNING AHEAD"Why aren't we talking to Scott?"
"You know why." Stiles replied hastily, scowling down at the hallway as Hailey trailed behind with a raised brow.
"No, I don't. That's what I asked, dumbass." She quipped, pressing her lips into a thin line.
Rolling his eyes so hard, his head went back, Stiles stopped, turning to face her with an irritated expression. Patience certainly wasn't one of his virtues. "Because of the mountain lion thing. My dad getting hurt. I blame Scott."
"What? Did he like it to attack him with his wolf powers?" Hailey asked sarcastically, rolling her own eyes. "I don't think it was Scott's fault, Sti. I think you're just looking to be mad at him because good stuff happens to him."
"I am not!"
"Yeah, you totally are." Hailey pushed, grabbing the strap of his backpack and yanking him close to her. "I get it, Scott gets the girl, he gets the cool powers, he gets first line, he gets the good shit. You're upset because things don't work out for you like that. I mean, if I was you I'd be pissed. But Scott didn't ask for this—except for, like, Allison, but that's not my point."
Stiles shifted awkwardly under his best friend's gaze, feeling as if she'd just peered into his soul. Because Stiles was pissed that Scott got everything he wanted and he didn't. He didn't have the girl, or powers, or anything. Well, he had Hailey. But Scott also had Hailey! And Hailey was more of a nuisance than anything else.
"My point is that Scott has only had problems with this werewolf thing and coach is so much harder on him now that he's first line. He's lying to his mom, dude. He never lies to his mom. He got a fuckin' butt load of stress dumped on him with no warning. I mean, I love him but he had no idea what he's doing. Not that he did before this. But now it's worse for him."
Hailey his shoulder lightly, giving him a stern look. "We're all he's got, Sti. We have to cut him some slack."
The boy sighed, his shoulders falling as they stared at one another. "Yeah, whatever, you're right. I'm still mad about my dad, though."
"I can let that slide." Hailey said, continuing their trek down the hallway, "How's he doing?"
"He's... pretty much, okay. He's pretty bent up about it though." Stiles told her, following dutifully at her side.
"He's not used to something getting the jump on him."
Stiles gaped at her, his eyes bugging out of his head. "Did you just make a pun about my dad getting attacked?"
"Yeah, I did and it was funny." She replied with a smirk, knowing he wasn't going to do anything about it.
"I hate you." He declared, shaking his head.
