Jenny was looking for a part time job. That's why she ended up at Videos2C, and also because she was trying to find a movie from when she was a kid. With her only mildly falsified job application and resume, she pushed into the video store. She had gone by herself—which was frightening, but she knew she needed to hold on to some semblance of being a functional human. Passing by a blue car, that she didn't bother to look into she made her way into the store.Taking a deep breath, she glanced quickly around the video store. Above her, a light flickered, making her swallow thickly around the lump in her throat. She needed to work up her courage. "Hello?" Jenny called out, hoping for a response. When nothing came back, the girl swallowed again and slowly ventured further in.
She figured there would be someone to respond to her, but the longer she stood there unattended, the more her anxiety started to swell. Her free hand reached for the back of her neck, trying to smooth the hair standing on edge. "Hello?" She repeated, irritation slipping into her tone.
"Is there no one in this dump?"
Jenny jumped, her head snapping around to find the source of the sour voice. Jackson Whittemore stood a little behind her, his arms crossed over his chest and a pissy expression on his face. He looked at her with a small scowl. "You'd think they'd come to see the customers who pay their salaries."
"Yeah..." The blonde murmured, her brows furrowing. Her eyes wandered up to the door, wondering how she hadn't heard him with the bell that was overhead. Why hadn't it rang? Was she really losing that much awareness of her surroundings?
"Can somebody help me find The Notebook?" Jackson asked loudly, his voice reverberating through the store.
"Movie night with Lydia?" Jenny wondered softly, meandering to the romance section, her eyes scouring the shelves for his movie.
"Yeah. This is the ninetieth time I've watched it." The boy said with a roll of his eyes.
"Shouldn't it have grown on you by now?"
"You'd think so."
The blonde snorted and shook her head, plucking the movie off the shelf and handed it to him. "Here. The Notebook. Now you get to watch it for the ninety-first time."
"Ha." Jackson said humorless, rolling his eyes again. It made her wonder how often he actually did that. Upon remembering it needed to be rung up before he could leave, he cast a gaze around the store again. "Hello? Is anybody working here?"
Rather than voice her opinion that if they didn't answer the first time they wouldn't this time, Jenny simply fell into step a little way behind him, her eyes glancing over the classics section to maybe spot the movie. Which was Faeries, one of her childhood favorites. She'd only find it if she was lucky, it hadn't been very popular even when she was a kid.
