Two days had passed.
Seonghwa was still stuck amidst the sea of confusion, not having the foggiest idea of whatever was going on. For the past two days, even though he was free of cuffs, he was still confined to a single room.
Seonghwa sometimes wondered where he actually was. Was he even in the sane city, or was he smuggled out to some other location? Poor boy hadn't seen the sunrays since the day he was chucked into this mysterious place. Thanks to his tolerance of not facing the Sun for days in his orphanage that he still hadn't gone insane.
The room Seonghwa was currently in was much different than the previous one, warmer and much homely, yet weirdly creepy. The space within comprised of two enormous couches, certain plump furnitures of great comfort and most significant of all, a grand fireplace. A grandfather clock hung against the wall and there were chandeliers down the roof and several candle stands upon the desks, some bearing half melted candles, the off white liquid now hardened against the metal. One thing Seonghwa never understood was why this room had so much of antique materials designed in a vintage touch, when it was the era of advanced technology.
The clock had struck ten long back and the boy was sitting idly on a couch, his gaze fixed at the cackling fire ignited at the fire place. Seonghwa sighed. He had his dinner a few moments ago, and had previously hunched up a plan of asking the young lass who served him about anything she knew about the place, the location and most importantly, the masked dude. But the girl kept quiet, lips pressed shut yet tainted with a sweet smile, as if she was trained not to speak. Dejected, Seonghwa let go of his plan.
He fixed his glasses a little and got up from the couch. He couldn't sleep. A weird tinge of nervousness and curiousity was currently haunting him and he couldn't really shake it off. Seonghwa looked around a bit, the darkness making it a little difficult for him to properly scan his surroundings. The clock now showed ten minutes past eleven. Seonghwa was about to give up and slump back on the couch when suddenly he noticed something gleaming against the northern wall.
The boy edged closer to the shining object, heart throbbing faster in an anticipated excitement and suppressed fear and soon, he discovered it to be a...door knob?
"So- it's a door?" he whispered to himself, as he felt his hands over the cold surface, soon confirming that it was indeed a door. Quickly, he wrapped his fingers around the knob and twisted and turned it. Within seconds, a 'click' sounded and with a sharp high pitched screech, opened the partly rusted door.
Seonghwa was beyond excited.
"This is incredible," he whispered in joy, face shining with a big stretch of a smile, "B-But it's too dark." In front of him was indeed the hollow darkness, ready to engulf whoever dared to venture it without any source of illumination.
Determined, Seonghwa ran back into the room and grabbed a candle stand from the desk. He quickly pulled out the drawers, rummaging each and everyone of them in search of a matchbox and finally came across one. Within minutes, he quickly lighted the candles, shoved the match box inside his trouser pocket and dashed for the door, without even looking back for once.
I'll have to escape!
Seonghwa walked and walked down the corridor, it's ambience getting darker and more and more suffocating as he trailed along. The little illumination that the candles provided was probably not enough to go through the dark but Seonghwa moved on. There were certain unexpected twists in the paths and the boy was saving himself every second from not having a fatal fall. After walking for perhaps an hour, Seonghwa was tired.
"What is this place?" he questioned to himself, scratching the back of his head in despair, "Is this even a house? A house isn't like-"
And that was when he heard.
A muffled sob and a low whining, more like crying.
Somebody was crying nearby.
Seonghwa's hairs stood at an end, and even though he was extremely petrified, he decided to explore and find out the origin. After all, what could be scarier than being in the domicile of a renowned serial killer?
Seonghwa slowly walked towards the source, his heart hammering audibly against his ribs, the candles on the verge of being extinguished. A minutes walk brought him in front of a carved wooden door which Seonghwa dared not to open. Instead, he stood in front of it, quietly hearing whatever act was going on on the other side of the coverage.
"I-I a-am s-s-sorry-" Someone was pleading in between occasional sobs, "Pl-Please d-don't k-kill m-me..."
A high pitched laugh rang from indoors, reverberating within the vicinity, scaring the glassed boy so much that he would have screamed or dropped the candle stand. Quickly he got a grip upon himself and held the stand tight with one hand, covering his mouth with his other to prevent him from screaming.
"Oh no no no! I won't kill you," And Seonghwa identified the voice without a doubt...The Masked Man..."I will destroy you."
Before anything else could occur, a high scream of pain and agony echoed back, shaking the environment. Seonghwa wanted to scream and drop the candle stand and run, but he couldn't. Repeated clanking and someone being hit by something heavy was audible, along with painful cries mingled with a cruel laughter. After a few minutes, everything went silent. Dead silent. So obvious was the palour of the eerie silence that it would seem as if nothing had transpired a few minutes ago.
Seonghwa was trying his best to pull himself together. He was sweating profusely from his face, his hands still trembling, now only a single candle left to burn out. He wanted to run away, yet his feet gave way and he felt stoic. His mind was blank and he was breathing heavily. But before he could do something else, the door in front of him opened.
Seonghwa froze.
Standing in front of him, clad in black and the unforgettable white mask covering the face, blood dripping from every inch of that mask making it look extremely horrible in the dark, stood the Masked Man, a low chuckle emitting from the interior of his cover.
"Trying to escape, kitten?"
