the annual summer party was here.

sarah convinced her dad once a year to host a huge party with her and her friends while ward, rose, and wheezie go to the bahamas for the week. rafe somehow manages to always get out of it even though he thinks sarah's parties are ridiculous and childish.

as soon as they leave sarah invites kie over. my leg has been healing up for nearly a month now but it was still painful when i had to walk on it but the boot and medication helps.

we begin setting up while the boys bring in the kegs and coolers.

this is the first time i have been in a room for more than a couple minutes with rafe since our incident a couple of weeks ago. he has been continuously staring at me as i set up streamers on the large sliding glass doors that lead out of their living room. sarah is standing on a ladder with orange streamers in one hand with a roll of tape in the other as i hold the base of the ladder.

after sarah nearly falls off the ladder as i struggle to hold it up straight, we decide decorating is done and now it's time to get ready. sarah, kie, and i rush upstairs and begin to do our hair and makeup while trying to decide an outfit.

i curled my long dirty blonde hair to go with my solid grey square neck top with an open back paired with a short light wash jean skirt.

sarah later convinced me to add a bow into the back of my hair by tying back a few of my front pieces with a piece of thick light pink ribbon.

as we walked down the stairs, sarah led and kie and i followed. john b, jj, and pope were gathered on the couch as we walked closer. jj jumped up and started clapping in an attempt to get us hyped up for the party. sarah turned on the large speakers surrounding their massive living room connecting to the dining room and kitchen. the guys all got up and went over to the kegs to get the party started. the large clock hung up on the wall of the living room read 8:57 as jj shoved a filled red solo cup into my hand. we all clashed cups and took a sip as people began walking in through the front door that was propped open. the first two people to walk in were topper and barry. topper eyed up sarah and john b with his arm around her as barry followed him in the direction of the stairs leading up the overlook where rafe, sarah, and i's rooms were.

those two were quickly forgotten as our high school friends began shuffling through the door with tables to play games on, loads of solo cups, and bottles of liquor slammed onto the kitchen island.

surprisingly i see colton across the room talking to some guys. he hadn't come visit me in the hospital or in the cameron house while i've been here. i've had no contact with him throughout my entire injury, not even a text. i walked over to him, many beers deep at this point. i was stumbling with my boot dragging across the ground as i reached him and placed a hand on his side.

he turned with a smile on his face but when he realized it was me, his smile quickly faded. his eyes looked nervous as he began to look around. "oh hey alex", he practically whispered.

i take my hand away from him and put it on my hip, "all you say is 'hey' after all this time". he says nothing. "you were there when this shit happened to me and you never reached out". he continued to stare at me.

"i tried", he was whispering at this point.

"bullshit", i shouted. heads turned around us and began to stare as i began to have little control over my volume.

colton says nothing but grabs my hand and walks out the front door with me lagging behind. he takes me across the landscaping to where no one is on the side of the house.

he turns around to look at me. "believe me alex, i tried to come visit you here".

i cut him off before he manages to get another word out. "then why didn't i see you', i blurt out.
