Marcus stepped forward, his fists clenched at his sides. He had always been the one in the family to at least pretend to care about me, but I knew better. When it came down to it, I was nothing more than an inconvenience. Still, the sight of him confronting Darius made my heart race. I knew what Darius was capable of, and this wouldn’t end well.
“I don’t know who you think you are,” Marcus growled, “but I won’t let you control her.”
Darius’s smile widened slightly, his amusement growing. He seemed almost bored with the confrontation.
“Marcus, isn’t it?” he said, his tone casual, but there was an underlying threat in his voice.
“I admire your bravery, but you’re out of your depth.”
“Get out of our house,” Marcus demanded, ignoring the danger. “Leave my sister alone.”
Darius’s eyes flicked to Celeste, who was watching the exchange with cold indifference.
She had never once defended me in all the years I’d known her, and I could see the disdain in her eyes as she stared at me now.
“She doesn’t need our help, Marcus,” Celeste said sharply.
“She never learns. Always running into trouble, always playing the victim.”
Her words stung, but they weren’t surprising. Celeste had always made sure I knew how little she thought of me.
The bitterness between us had been festering for years, but now, standing in the middle of this mess with Darius, it felt more raw than ever.
“Celeste, shut up!” Marcus snapped, his patience finally wearing thin.
Darius chuckled softly. “Family drama. How touching.”
Marcus glared at him, his temper barely contained. “You think this is funny? You’re sick.”
Darius’s face darkened then, his easy amusement vanishing in an instant. “I think you’re confused about who has the upper hand here,” he said quietly, his voice like ice.
He took a step closer to Marcus, towering over him, his presence menacing. “Aurelia is mine, whether you accept it or not.”
Marcus didn’t back down, but I could see the tension in his jaw, the way his hands flexed at his sides.
He was afraid, even if he wouldn’t admit it. Darius had that effect on people.
“You’re insane,” Marcus muttered. “You can’t just claim someone—”
“I already have,” Darius interrupted, his voice low and dangerous.
“And I’d be careful if I were you. You don’t want to make me angry.”
For a moment, the room was deadly silent, the weight of Darius’s words hanging in the air like a threat.
I could feel the tension crackling between them, and my heart pounded in my chest, terrified of what might happen next.
Marcus opened his mouth to speak, but before he could say anything, Celeste stepped forward, placing a hand on his arm.
“Let’s go,” she said, her voice firm but cold. “This isn’t our problem.”
Marcus turned to her, his expression incredulous. “Are you serious?”
“Yes,” she snapped. “This is her mess, not ours. Let her deal with it.”
I felt the sharp sting of her words like a slap in the face, but I stayed silent, my throat tight with emotion.
Celeste had always resented me, always seen me as weak and undeserving of the family name. And now, when I needed her most, she was walking away.
Darius watched the exchange with mild interest, clearly entertained by the sibling dynamic.
“Your sister is right,” he said smoothly. “It’s better if you stay out of this.”
Marcus hesitated, his jaw clenched as he looked between me and Darius. Finally, he sighed heavily, the fight leaving his body.
“Aurelia… are you sure?”
The question hung in the air, but I couldn’t bring myself to answer. What was I supposed to say? That I was fine? That I was safe? I wasn’t sure of anything anymore.
After a long, painful silence, Marcus turned and walked out of the room without another word.
Celeste followed, casting one last disdainful look in my direction before she disappeared down the hallway.
And just like that, they were gone.
I stood there, frozen in place, my body trembling as the weight of the situation crashed down on me.
My family had abandoned me. They weren’t going to protect me. I was alone.
Darius turned back to me, his expression calm, though there was a spark of triumph in his eyes. “Well, that was easier than expected.”
I stared at him, my hands clenched into fists at my sides, anger bubbling up inside me.
“Why are you doing this?” I asked, my voice barely a whisper. “What do you want from me?”
He stepped closer, his gaze locking onto mine with an intensity that made my pulse race. “I told you,” he said softly, his voice like velvet. “I want you.”
I backed up until I hit the wall, but there was nowhere to go.
Darius closed the distance between us, his hand resting on the wall beside my head, trapping me in place.
“And I always get what I want,” he murmured, his lips brushing against my ear. “You’ll learn that soon enough.”
His other hand came up to gently caress the side of my face, his touch sending a shiver down my spine.
I hated the way my body reacted to him, the way my heart raced and my breath hitched every time he came near.
But I couldn’t stop it. No matter how much I resisted, he had a hold on me that I couldn’t break.
“You’re mine, Aurelia,” he whispered, his lips grazing my skin as his fingers trailed down the side of my neck.
“And no one—especially not your pathetic family—will take you from me.”
Tears welled up in my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. I wouldn’t let him see me break.
“I’ll never be yours,” I choked out, my voice trembling with emotion.
Darius pulled back slightly, his eyes dark and dangerous as they met mine. “You already are.”
And as his lips claimed mine once again, I knew deep down that I was losing this battle. The walls were closing in, and there was no escape.
I was his, whether I liked it or not.
