the final scene was miller and clara's love confession, which was, of course, perfect timing for mason. the story so far between miller and clara had been messy, after they made up, miller had gone and found himself with another girl, but is still sneaking around with clara because he still wants her. sounds familar. but mason still wasn't sure if he should do it or not, given him and starr's situation.

"and... action." they heard mark say, as the set went quiet.

"why do you keep pushing me away?" mason's voice trembled slightly, though the intensity in his gaze never wavered. he stepped closer, too close, his presence almost overwhelming. "you think it's easier for me to stand there and pretend i don't want you?"

"what do you want me to say?" starr threw back, her voice breaking, the frustration and confusion blurring the lines between reality and the scene they were supposed to be acting out. "that i'm okay with being a secret? that i'm fine with you being with someone else in front of everyone?"

mason's jaw clenched, his eyes narrowing. "you know why it's like this—i didn't have a choice!"

"there's always a choice, miller!" starr shot back—no, not starr, clara. or maybe it was starr. it didn't matter anymore. "you didn't have to do this. you didn't have to agree to pretend like you care about someone else when you—" she cut herself off, her chest heaving.

"when i what?" he demanded, his voice dropping to a whisper, stepping even closer until she was forced to crane her neck to meet his eyes. "when i love you?" his voice was fierce, filled with a raw emotion that made her heart stutter.

starr's lips parted, her gaze locked on his. she knew they were off script. she knew this wasn't part of the scene, but she couldn't look away, couldn't breathe past the pain and longing in his eyes.

from the sidelines, mark's eyes went wide as he crossed his arms.
"uh, mark.. do we cut?—" a crew member asks.

"sh, shh, shhh. let them do their thing." mark waves his arms in the mans face to usher him away.
