it was their last free day in london. tomorrow, they'd be on a red carpet, smiling at cameras, standing next to ahliya like they hadn't just exposed her for being the biggest snake alive. but right now, starr could only focus on the way mason kept glancing at her from across the breakfast table, like he was waiting for something. waiting for her to bring it up.
she wasn't going to.
but of course, mason had never been one for patience. "so," he said, setting down his fork, "are we doing this or not?"
starr took another bite of her toast, refusing to meet his gaze. "doing what?"
he exhaled sharply. "starr."

she clenched her jaw. "i don't know what you want me to say."
mason scoffed, pushing his chair back. "of course you don't."
he stood up abruptly, shoving his hands into his pockets, like he was trying to keep himself from saying something he'd regret. but then he shook his head, like he was done holding back. "come on."
starr frowned. "what?"
"come on, starr," he repeated, already walking out of the restaurant.
she hesitated for a second before sighing and following him. she had no idea where he was going, but she knew better than to argue when he got like this.
he led her out of the hotel and down the street, walking fast, like he had too much energy and nowhere to put it. she had to half-jog to keep up.
