Novissima Focis ~ The Last Hearth

Night eventually fell and Osha tried to light a candle to allow for some light in the tower.

'Is that safe?' Meera gestured towards the flame.

'They're long gone now,' Osha reassured her, placing the candle down next to Bran who was in the middle of the room leant up against a post.

'I can get inside Summer's mind whenever I want.' Bran said half as a statement half as a question.

'Of course you can,' Jojen responded. 'North of the Wall there are wildlings who can control all sorts of animals. But you did a lot more than that. You got inside Hodor's mind.'

'They can't do that North of the Wall?'

Osha shook her head.

'No one can do that...' Jojen smiled, 'anywhere.'

Everyone was crowded around Bran, all eyes were on him. You felt slightly sorry for him, you were just as intrigued as well.

'When I was looking through Summer's eyes, I saw Jon,' Bran smiled and leaned in.

'Where?' Rickon asked excitedly.

'He was with the wildings. They tried to kill him, but he got away.'

'He'll be heading to Castle Black then. That's where we should go.' Osha tried yet again to convince Bran to go to Castle Black.

'For all we know, Castle Black's already under attack,' Bran fought against the idea. 'If this many wildlings got through...'

'I already told you,' Osha cut him off abruptly. 'I'm not going North of the Wall.' You felt bad for Osha and could understand why she wouldn't want to return but you also understood that Bran would need to.

'Everything Jojen told me is true. You saw what I did to Hodor. I have to find the three-eyed raven.' Bran pleaded.

'Listen to me little Lord,' Osha placed her hand on Bran's.

'Don't worry. I'm not asking you to come with me. It won't be safe for Rickon.'

'Me? I'm coming with you,' Rickon fought.

'No. You and Osha and Shaggydog head for the Last Hearth.' Bran held onto Rickon's hand trying to comfort him about their inevitable separation. 'The Umbers are our bannermen. They'll protect you.'

'I'm coming with you.' Rickon begged again but slower. 'I'm your brother. I have to protect you.'

A tear formed in your eye listening to the brothers talk. You missed your siblings back in Dorne. You missed your father.

'Right now I have to protect you,' Rickon bit his lip holding back tears as he listened to his brother speak. 'Robb's at war and I'm going beyond the Wall. If something happens to us, you're the heir to Winterfell.' Rickon shook his head. Tears threatened to spill from his eyes.

'Would you know how to find the Last Hearth?' Bran asked Osha.

'You southerners build your big castles and you never move. You're easy to find.' Osha gave a sad smile.

'We're not southerners.' Rickon stood up towards Osha before turning back to Bran. 'And I don't want to leave you.' A single tear rolled down his cheek.

'Shh, shh. Come here, little soldier.' Rickon sat on Osha's lap. 'You and me, we're gonna have some adventures.' Rickon cried and Osha tried to console him. She knew what Bran was saying was right.

'You don't have to do any of this.' Bran said to Osha. Rickon curled up to cry even more.

'Your family took me in and was good to me when they had no cause to be.' Osha stroked Rickon's hair as he sobbed. 'Shh. You'll be fine. You'll be fine.' Osha turned back to Rickon, 'The Umbers are great warriors. Even I heard about them growing up. They'll teach you how to swing a sword.'

'I know how to swing a sword.' Rickon let out between sobs.

Soon after Rickon fell asleep, and everyone took it as their sign to do the same. You could see that Bran was still awake and went to sit next to him. You didn't know what to say to comfort him so you settled for just leaning your head on his shoulder. The two of you sat in comfortable silence for a few minutes until Bran began to speak.

'You should go with Rickon and Osha,' he whispered. You sat up straight to look him in the eyes.

'It's not safe for you to come across the Wall with us. You should stay with them and head back to Last Hearth. They will look after you there as well.' Bran whispered.

'No. I'm staying with you.' You insisted, determination hardening your voice. 'I can't leave you. Not when you're going to need me the most.' Bran's eyes softened but the weight of all the potential danger was still evident in his eyes.

'No. You don't understand-' he started but you cut him off.

'No, Bran. You don't understand. I won't turn back now. I'm not leaving you.'

'Alright. I can't tell you what to do,' Bran sighed, a mixture of concern and relief washing over him. 'We are still betrothed after all.'

You smiled and let out a small laugh.

--------------------------

You woke up to the sound of people moving. Bran woke up at the same time to the sound. Osha was packing up hers and Rickon's things. Osha gave Rickon a kiss on the head before pulling him to stand up with her.

'You're leaving now? It's not even morning yet.' You asked.

'I learned to walk in darkness.' Osha stated. 'Say your good-byes little man.'

Rickon knelt down to hug Bran. The two of them lingered in their tight embrace, not knowing when or if they would ever see each other again.

'Keep this one safe,' Osha gestured towards Bran while looking at you. 'He means the world to me.'

Bran and Rickon let go of their hug when Osha, Rickon, and Shaggydog made their leave for the Last Hearth. Both Meera and Jojen were sound asleep still and you didn't know how Hodor would take being parted with Osha.

A/N: um guys lets pretend that the horse didn't suddenly stop existing. I totally forgot she had one. Oops. It ran away or something idk.
