Peregrinus ~ Stranger

You continued spending your days walking. It was getting tiring and honestly very boring. You felt bad thinking but you were jealous of Bran who got pushed around by Hodor all day. You would kill to take a break from walking. You all rotated who you walked with trying your best to find something new to talk about.

Finally a large castle came into sight. You must be getting closer to the Wall. Meera ran in front of the group to check whether the castle was abandoned or not.

'It's empty,' she announced.

'Let's find a place to sleep.' Jojen said.

After being given the all clear to keep moving forward you started to run down the hill that led to the castle. Summer followed after you, her tail wagging in a blur of motion.

'Catch me if you can,' you called out to Summer and ran around the large dark green trees. You glanced back to see Summer's massive paws thumping against the ground, her tongue lolling out in a happy grin.

Summer lunged forwards, her sheer size made the leap seem effortless. You squealed as she toppled you over. The two of you fell to the ground and Summer stayed laying on top of you. You giggled and patted her thick white fur.

The two of you caught up to the other who had overtaken you and headed for the doors of the castle. Hodor ran over to a well and stuck his head in it.

'Hodor,' he kept saying into the well listening to the echo. It made you smile watching him enjoy the simple things in life.

'Don't,' Bran said sitting in the corner.

'Let him be,' you scolded Bran.

Hodor stopped and left the well.

'Why are you so moody all the time?' You spat at Bran, walking over to where he was sitting.

'Maybe we shouldn't stay here,' he said, running his hand across the tree stump that was next to him.

'You'd rather be out there?' You raised an eyebrow at him.

'There's a lot of stories about this place. Horrible stories.'

'I always quite liked the horrible stories,' Jojen added.

'So did I. Once,' Bran stared into the fire. 'You ever heard about the Rat Cook?'

'No. Who's he?' Meera asked as Jojen walked over. The five of you were now circled around the fire.

'Just a cook in the Night's Watch. He was angry at the king for something I don't remember. When the king was visiting the Nightfort, the cook killed the king's son, cooked him into a big pie with onions, carrots, mushrooms, and bacon. That night he served the pie to the king. He liked the taste of his son so much, he asked for a second slice. The gods turned the cook into a giant white rat who could only eat his young. He's been roaming the Nightfort ever since, devouring his own babies. But no matter what he does, he's always hungry.'

'I could go for a pie right now,' you sighed. Jojen and Meera quietly laughed.

'If the gods turned every killer into-' Meera began.

'It wasn't for murder the gods cursed the Rat Cook or for serving the king's son in a pie. He killed a guest beneath his roof. That's something the gods can't forgive.' Just as Bran had finished a clatter could be heard in the distance making you jump closer to Jojen who was sitting next to you.

'That's what I want to hear before I go to bed. Thanks Bran,' you smiled sarcastically at him.

'Yeah well I told you we shouldn't stay here,' he replied.
