The Final Battle (P8)

A few minutes earlier...

"Chat Noir, on your left!" Viperion shouted, "Flairmidable, trip her and break the object. Don't try to overpower them, it wastes too much energy for how many there are!"

If Viperion was shouting out so many orders, they must've done this song and dance quite a few times. Felix had to hand it to Viperion, seeing and remembering all the failed attempts with a will to push through wasn't common in the average person. Still, it couldn't be that hard, right?

Felix spared a glance at Marinette, she held a polka-dot pencil in her hands while Ryuko attacked with various elements.

"Flairmidable!" Viperion shouted.

Felix turned, an Empress Justice had appeared right in front of him, needle in hand ready to attack. She thrust the needle down to stab him in the eye, but not before Viperion jumped in, hand raised.

Viperion's form blocked Felix's view of what happened. It seemed like she had just stopped for no reason, but that couldn't possibly be it. Viperion must have grabbed her wrist to keep the needle from striking.

"Damnit, not again..." Viperion muttered.

Felix's brows furrowed and he moved, shifting his line of sight so he could see what happened. There before him, the Empress was shaking with effort in hopes of subduing Viperion, her needle sticking clean through the center of his palm.

Every twist and wiggle made Viperion grunt with pain but he managed to use her force against her. She was trying desperately to push the needle further and toward his throat. After Felix had moved from behind Viperion, he also moved and let her fall forward.

Viperion pulled the needle from his left hand and broke it with the other as if the motion was practiced. The cloned Akuma fluttered away and the civilian was free.

Blood seeped from the wound, the needle must have gone straight through the bone-- Viperion needed help, better yet, needed to undo it.

"Your hand--" Felix began.

Viperion held up his good hand to stop Felix, "Don't worry about me, besides, I'm right-handed anyway."

Felix was about to argue when he heard a sickening snap. He turned before Viperion could stop him. There, in Hawkmoth's grasp, was Ladybug's limp form, blood dripping down her body. Felix wished he could have mistaken the blood for the red of her suit, but it was too dark, too thick, and her eyes were--

"MARINETTE!" Felix cried in panic.

"Second Chance!"

"Chat Noir, watch your left!" Viperion shouted, "Flairmidable, trip her and break the object. Don't try to overpower them, and don't get distracted, Ladybug and Ryuko can handle themselves!"

Viperion was shouting out many orders, meaning they must've done this song and dance quite a few times already. It was reassuring to hear that Ladybug and Ryuko would be all right. If Viperion had to remind Chat Noir and him to stay focused, there must've been a few other times when they got distracted and lost the battle.

Felix moved with agile grace, dropping low to sweep the legs of the foe Empress Justice. She fell with a thud, stunned by what happened. Felix took advantage of her confusion to take her needle and snap it in half, the evil Akuma fluttering away.

Felix spared a glance to Chat Noir who was fighting his own opponent a few yards away. Felix spotted another Empress coming up behind him.

He wouldn't be able to make it in time. Felix rushed toward him, he would be damned if he stood by and watched his cousin die.

"Noir, behind you!" Felix shouted although it didn't matter much.

It was too late. Chat Noir turned around, his eyes widening at the sight of an Empress Justice, her needle swinging down to attack. A moment later, Viperion was there, his hand holding his lyre raised to block the needle. Chat Noir hadn't time to notice what Felix did as he turned back to face his first enemy.

Viperion's hand had been run through by the needle, but he didn't look at all surprised. Instead, he seemed sadly resigned. Had this happened before? How many times?

A gurgling sound drew Felix's attention from Viperion and to Ryuko and Ladybug's battle.

"Ryuko!" Ladybug cried, swinging her yo-yo into the black sludge that covered Hawkmoth and effectively doing nothing to harm him. He held Ryuko in his grasp, sludge covering her entire body so she couldn't escape into the elements. Sludge was drowning her, making her suffocate. Ryuko squirmed and writhed before she seemed to lose all strength in her body.

But didn't Viperion say they were fine?

"Second Chance!"
