It was my wedding day. It was my wedding day!
For the past year, the people of Calonia had warmed up to me. No longer did they question my humble beginnings or how I'd captured Prince Nova's heart. Of course, some still didn't approve, but I didn't let that bother me.
Today was the day we'd been waiting for.
I sat upright on my bed, reaching for my phone to dial Mira's number. Mira had gone out of the country with Prince Cadoc, turns out she was living her dream of traveling around the world, but with Prince Cadoc by her side. For the past year, Mira had explored exotic lands, experienced new cultures, and created unforgettable memories, all while I stayed in the Palace, learning the intricacies of royal life and preparing to become a queen. Of course I was no longer a maid.
"Where are you? You said you'd be here yesterday. Today's the wedding day," I said, trying to hide my anxiety.
Mira's laugh echoed through the line. "Relax, I'm here."
Before I could respond, a knock at the door interrupted me. I rose to answer it, and my eyes widened.
Mira stood before me, accompanied by Emily, Lydia, my mom, and a few maids.
"There's the bride!" my mom exclaimed.
Mira grinned. "Do you really think I'd miss my bestie's big day?" she teased.
I laughed, embracing her tightly.
Emily chimed in. "Don't forget us in the hug."
That's how I found myself in a group hug with the people I loved.
After releasing me, they whisked me away to get ready. The deep red gown shimmered as I slipped it on. The designers had crafted it perfectly, opening up from the waist down like a blooming flower. My hair was styled, makeup applied, and finally, a red veil covered my face, adhering to our customs.
My mom gasped, even though she couldn't see my face. "Wow, you look so beautiful."
I smiled under the veil, unable to see her clearly.
Lydia added. "Yes Auntie, Val is a stunning bride."
Emily chimed in. "Prince Nova is so lucky to have you."
Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes. "Thank you...all of you," I whispered.
Mira asked. "Ready?"
I nodded.
With my entourage surrounding me, they led me to the grand hall.
The sound of gentle music and murmuring guests grew louder. My heart beat faster but I was ready to begin my new life with the love of my life.
As I entered the grand hall, everyone stood, their faces a blur beyond my red veil. I kept my gaze downcast, following my mom's gentle guidance to the raised dais.
We reached the platform, and I took my seat. A moment later, someone sat beside me. Without a doubt, I knew it was Nova. Yes, I'd started calling him that, and turns out I liked it that way - intimate, personal, and ours.
A bowl filled with dark red liquid appeared under my veil, an ancient tradition to verify the bride's identity. I smiled, seeing my reflection staring back. And beside me, Nova's reflection smiled too.
He raised his thumbs up to the crowd, and I giggled. Our reflections showed our shared joy. The hall erupted in cheers.
Nova and I stood, and the veil was lifted.
I blinked, taking in the sea of faces. My parents beamed with pride. Mira grinned, surrounded by Prince Cadoc, Emily, Lydia, Alia Mambo, and her family. Miss Millicent and Lord Alexander smiled warmly. Mrs. Bertha waved enthusiastically.
