Alaina Floriana knocked on the glass front door. The Morticaya house was a large, white, modern farmhouse. It sat on a massive plot of land, similar to hers, although instead of a thick forest, this land was mostly open and flat. At least one of the residents must have loved birds. Chickens, turkeys, guinea fowls, geese and ducks roamed across the grass. Parrots, doves, finches, canaries and quails fluttered inside massive aviaries. And still, there were birdhouses, birdbaths and birdfeeders everywhere. Alaina knew, thanks to Jaiden's frequent lectures on plants, that the majority of the well maintained plants scattered throughout the multitude of gardens were all favourites amongst birds, wherever it be for nesting or feeding. Whoever lived here truly had an obsession.
After a minute of waiting, the door opened. A woman stood there. She was short and fit, with short, silvery hair and gentle chocolate brown eyes. This was probably Nora Morticaya, the single mother of the Morticaya family.
'Hello. What can I do for you?' Nora asked.
'I'm Alaina Floriana.'
Those three words were enough to get the point across. Three minutes later, the two of them sat in the living room sipping some decaffeinated tea. Nora appeared to be feeling quite guilty. She should be. Her three daughters had very thoroughly torn apart the lives of Alaina's two sons. Alaina couldn't exactly relate to what it was like to raise Magicae, seeing as her sons only developed their powers recently, but surely Nora could've done a better job. What kind of parent allows their children to become violent murderers?
'So, why did you come here?' Nora asked. 'Also, forgive me for saying this, but I thought you died.'
'Your eldest daughter coerced Jaiden and I into coming with her. She told us a bunch of lies about Nathan. I shouldn't have believed her, it was stupid of me. But in any case, the things the Dire Action Force killed were Talia's own clones who had been created to look and act just like us. We were hidden in a storage warehouse for our "safety". But then when Nathan won and we learned the truth, we ended up leaving. And that leads to your other question. We tried to get home, but we couldn't enter the property. Jaiden ran off, leaving me alone and I was hoping that you or one of your daughters would know where Nathan is.'
Nora shrugged.
'No clue. And my daughters are all out at the moment. I can message them though, yeah give me sec.'
She pulled out a phone and quickly typed up messages to her three daughters. After a couple of minutes, two replies came back, one from Talia and one from Alexandria. Their messages were identical.
Why?
Nora sent another message explaining that Alaina was trying to find him. This time, their responses varied.
Inferno_Queen: I don't know
BigSisTali: I'm afraid I can't tell you that
Nora looked puzzled.
MamabirdNora: Why can't you tell me?
BigSisTali: Nathan doesn't want you to know
BigSisTali: Specifically, he doesn't want either of you to know
Alaina sighed. Talia was at it again with her lies. Nora scratched her head.
'Still no reply from Aurora. You know what, I'll just message him directly. I'll tell him that you want to know where he is.'
MamabirdNora: Pendragon, I have your mother with me and she is looking for you. I can send a photo if you need proof. Could you please send us your location?
