Chapter Prologue: Reunion for One, a first for the Other

"You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them."

" Your ex-boyfriend is what--?! "

" Jeez, don't be so loud, manager! As I said before, he's here. Like right now. We're kinda a thing again, haha! "

" Ai, " Ichigo's voice in the call dripped with exhaustion and anxiety for today, but this unexpected turn has clearly got him worse. " This is serious! And why did he come now of all days? Today is your debut at the biggest stage in Tokyo--"

The ' ex-boyfriend ' in question shuffled in his position in a stiff manner, his eyes awkwardly stare at the two little pair of eyes belonging to a boy and girl, staring up at him with curiosity. Though, the little girl seems to be glaring at him rather harshly.

Should I really have been so impulsive? He thinks to himself. Maybe showing up wasn't the greatest idea after all--

" Oh? No need to send Miyako-san over. Hikaru-kun can watch over my-- ahem-- I mean our children. He is their father after all. " Ai sends Hikaru a wink, he was surprised and pretty nervous but he offers a smile back anyhow. He could never resist Ai's smile, especially one as sincere as that.

It makes him wonder if she's always envisioned a future like this.... but then, why did she--

" B-But I want to stay with mama! " Ruby topples across Ai's lap, looking up at her with a teary face. " I don't want to stay with this dude! "

Dude. Hikaru's smile cracks. She regarded him in such a dismissive manner to the point it stings.

Ai only giggles before patting her daughter's blonde hair, " But mama has to perform. And besides, this man is your father. Weren't you and Aqua wondering who he was and what he was like? Now's the time to figure that out. " She cheerfully said.

Aqua and Ruby froze.

Crap, she heard that?! They simultaneously thought. Neither wanted Ai to overhear that passing conversation, it was more of a curious thought, really. I mean, who wouldn't be curious about the mysterious guy who managed to enchant someone as wonderful as Hoshino Ai? But it's not like they actually cared too much about getting to know the guy. For all they know, Ai has raised them alone just fine without the help of their absent father.

On the other hand, Hikaru took interest in that part. So Ai wasn't lying. Her kids...er, their kids, were curious about him at some point. Ah, but he doesn't think he's made too good of an impression yet. Ai glances at him in an expectant matter, and he gives her a knowing gaze before sighing and resigning himself to the situation he allowed himself in wholeheartedly.

" You can rely on me, " Hikaru smiles warmly, as best he could. " We won't be too far from where your mom is performing. You'll be able to see her just fine. I'll take good care of you--"

" Can't we just get Miyako-san? " Ruby broke his spiel of assurance with a bland tone, " We're more used to her now anyway. "

Twah! Her words were ruthless arrows piercing into his heart. Hikaru's pride never felt so demolished. By a child, no less!

" Ruby, " Finally, the boy twin speaks, and seems to be scolding his younger twin with a disapproving look. " Let's listen to what Ai says and leave it at that. "

' Ai '?

How strange. Why would their son be calling Ai by her name instead of ' mom '? Wait, could this mean he's not too fond of Ai? Impossible, he thinks. But then that could mean this boy just might be able to like Hikaru instead--

" We'll be in your care, Kamiki-san. "

Ah, I shouldn't have expected much... He stands corrected. Seems like this kid's just a weirdo But it did sting to hear him calling him by his surname instead, showing the real distance between father and son bond.

" Thank you, Aquamarine--"

" Please," The boy cringes. " I prefer Aqua. "

Hikaru slightly chuckles at that. " Sure. Aqua it is then. "

" Good boy, Aqua. " Ai praises her son and pats his head. Aqua blushes and looks away, but seems to be leaning closer to her touch.

Nevermind. Hikaru concedes another point for the day. He clearly loves his mom.

Meanwhile Ruby still gives him the stink eye.

Decided to make a what if Oshi no Ko was healthy fic. And decided to give another shot at making a Hikaru x Ai fic after seeing what their actual dynamic was like from the manga, of course, things will be changed since most of the bad things did not happen in this alternate timeline. And with Hikaru deciding to accept Ai's offer of getting to see his children, this will be a family-centered fic with Hikaru and Ai's own set of problems with each other too sprinkled in between.

Basically this is just my desire to write a happy family LOL

I promise the next chapter will get better. This one is only a mess cuz I suck at introducing the premise, but once I actually start cooking, then you'll see my vision for this AU!

I am also going to begin writing in first person again. Since I believe emotions will be portrayed better from a first person perspective, and it will switch between the family members for each chapter when I feel like it. So yes.

Also, don't expect me to write about GoldenBeryl anymore, at least for a long time. I'm not really interested in writing anything relating to COTE anymore. The LN is just getting too ridiculous and whatever feelings i had for it had just died out. So I'm going to slowly branch myself out of that and focus on a separate fandom one at a time, since I did find enjoyment writing my BTR fic, I want to now write something purely for ONK. 

Eventually, I will consider leaving this account altogether to publish on an alt I've had for a while. So take this fic as my practice to branch out of being a one-trick author.
