Leafy hadn't returned to the kingdom. She enjoyed Firey's company more than she could have imagined, and she had yet to bring herself to leave it. She knew she would have to eventually, but in the meantime, she let herself just bask in the presence of the boy.

"Firey?" She asked, looking up at him, who was tossing a fireball from hand to hand fascinatingly.

"Yeah, Leafy?" He replied, snuffing out the fire by clasping his hand closed.

"I don't think I ever asked, but how did you get your powers?"

"Mh...I don't actually know. I was just born with them. I tried to hide them ever since they developed, but eventually they just...flooded out. And now I'm out here."

"I suppose that makes sense...Hey, I—"

"FREEZE!!"

The two flinched and whirled around to see several castle guards from the Flame Kingdom. Before Leafy could do or say anything, however, Firey grabbed her hand and sprinted off. "After them!!" She heard one of the guards yell behind them.

"What's going on!?" She asked fearfully.

"They found me." He replied with a slight grunt. He glanced over his shoulder at her, and his face softened. "I'm sorry for dragging you with me. I-I just...panicked."

"No, it's okay. I'm glad." She assured, smiling at him. In her eyes, he was simply worried about her. After all, her kingdom and the Flame Kingdom were life-long enemies. She let go of his hand and slid up to run next to him.

The two continued to run away from the guards, having a brief lead on them. Suddenly, Firey tripped over his foot.

And he slipped.

Leafy gasped, and immedietly spun around, but it was too late. The guards were right at his feet, and one had a sword pointed to his face. The head one looked up and pointed at her, "Get her!"

"LEAFY, RUN!!" Firey screamed.

"B-But—!"

"Forget me, just GO!!"

She stepped back slowly, wide-eyed, before hesitantly turning around and sprinting away. As soon as she did, and he saw that she easily out-sped the few soldiers that followed her, he breathed a small sigh of relief. "Don't move!" The guards that stayed with him warned.

"Okay, okay." He put his hands up.

"Give us one good reason why we shouldn't kill you where you stand, outlaw!"

"Hey, I have a name, y'know!"

Before he could get a response, he lit his right arm on fire and swiped at the men. He wasn't planning on setting them ablaze, just shocking them, which worked. While they were only stunned for a split second, that was all the time he needed.

In a matter of moments, he dropkicked one in the face. He kicked off a tree he was flying into and flipped, punching another in the process. One tried to swipe him with a dagger, but he caught his wrist and pushed him as hard as he could into another. Quickly, he ducked under a sword and swept the guard's legs. Finally, he stood over the incapacitated soldiers and took a deep breath.

"Gotta find Leafy..." He muttered under his breath as he turned and darted in the direction she had ran. Suddenly, about two minutes later, he heard a faint scream that sounded quite similar to Leafy's voice. His heart dropped and he quickly pivoted to the direction of the scream, before finally creeping up on it.

"LEAFY, I'M—" He screamed, only to suddenly have his wrist grappled by an unknown figure, who was quickly revealed to be another soldier.

"Got you!" She giggled. She twirled around and pinned him to a tree. His eyes widened quick, and he attempted to make a fireball, but she easily snuffed it out with her armor glove, which was clearly fireproof. He tried to push her off him, but she was stronger than him.

"Damn it!" He internally panicked, and it only increased when he felt the blade of a dagger just millimeters away from his neck. He wanted to resist, but her glare made it clear that she'd kill him if he did. So, he squeezed his eyes shut, waiting for the end.

But it never came.

As he suddenly heard the sound of a fist colliding with the girl's skull, followed by the dagger slowly slipping from his neck.

His eyes slowly fluttered open, welcoming the sight of Leafy smiling comfortingly. "Are you okay?" She asked. He let out a soft, gentle breath of relief.

"Yeah, I-I'm fine." He smiled back at her, "That was a good punch!"

"My sister taught me how to fight a long time ago. Now, c'mon! Before she wakes up!"

"O-Oh, right!"

The two ran through the forest till they were sure they were out of the guards range. Once they were out, Firey sighed. "I'm so sorry, Leafy..." He apologized, sitting at the edge of the cliff they ran to, "I got you into this mess, and now there's no way you'll make it back to your kingdom anytime soon."

"It's okay, Firey." She assured with a gentle smile. She went to sit next to him.

"No it isn't! You—"

"I'm not going back."

His eyes shot open and he turned to face her. "Wh...What do you mean?"

"I don't want to go back. I trust Ivy to run the kingdom. As intimidating as she is, she's a wonderful leader. And besides..." She grabbed his hand gently and smiled at him, "I want to stay with you. I love you."

Before he could say anything in response, she leaned forward and planted a kiss on his lips.

He felt his heart stop for a moment, before it sped up immensely. But alas, he closed his eyes, and let himself lean into it. After a few moments, she pulled away, blushing just as much as him. "W..Well..." He stuttered nervously, before chucking, "I...guess that settles it, huh...?"

"Yes it does, Firey." Her smile grew, as she hugged herself close to him. The sun slowly set at the edge of the cliff, its rays slowly descending into the trees below. That was her last chance. She would never be the perfect queen for her people. For her family. But she couldn't bring herself to feel bad.

She knew that this was where she truly belonged.
